What is the minimum contact and power you consider usable?
-
Seems hard to justify having anyone in your lineup with lower power. I’m curious what your cutoff is for being “usable”.
Let’s take Legend difficulty out for this conversation. What’s the lowest contact and power you would consider using for HOF/All-Star difficulties?
-
People take power too seriously imo. A lot of them think there is some magic threshold at 80 but the top dot at the center PCI switches at 65 power so anything over 65 can be useful. For contract the minimum I would use on HOF is like mid 80's maybe. Contact ratings don't matter on allstar almost at all.

I think what I find the most frustrating thing about Contact / Power is that you have guys with super high contact and medium to low power that when they swing its like they're in the HR derby. You can put a great swing on a ball , square it up and it's a lazy fly ball. Although line drives seem to be a little more prevalent I think they could tweak this even more.

Only fun merchants with theme teams they don’t use would have someone below 80-90 power in their line up and pretend it doesn’t make a difference.
Power trumps Contact every year. Ones is a skill stat the other is a boost stat, If your good enough 60 contact is enough, but if it’s not Joey Gallo with 90 power it ain’t going anywhere.
When’s the last time you faced Tony Gwynn Kenny Lofton or Ozzie Smith? The same amount of times you’ll face the new 110+ contact 65+ power Jose Iglesias. Never, nobody wants to hit fly balls all day.

Oddly enough I have faced Lofton and Gwynn a lot. In fact, Gwynn jacked a 350 plus homer against me. I was not happy.

Lofton gets almost a devers/mullins amount of appreciation posts in reddit too. I've seem both of those cards plenty of times from players who don't follow exactly what lineups the streamers tell them to. The main reason people think contact hitters are unusable is because they try to hit it on the top dot of the center pci like they do with everyone else

Hence why Ty Cobb was the goat, he could do it all.

Eh, I’d typically agree 100% when discussing any previous rendition of the game, but not ‘22. This years game is definitely weighted toward contact. Maybe it’s just me, but everyone I play with on co op agrees as well.

I’m not sure it’s quite that extreme. I use a TT year round so I have to make things work with non-meta cards. I use 89 Blackmon and he’s had plenty of success and pop against lefties while only having 71 power. Juan Pierre ropes triples off the wall regularly for me.
I feel like contact is much more important this year compared to other years. Same with vision. I tend to get much more perfect/perfect swings with high contact/vision players while having similar PCI placement. It feels like both effect timing a lot more this year.
91 Todd Helton doesn’t have light tower power but he’s played great for me with his 78-79 power. Iglesias in a very short sample playing vs CPU has been smoking the ball for me, but then a guy like DJ LeMahieu with 63 power feels like he’s swing a pool noodle. It’s hard to say where that cutoff is. Maybe it really is just dependent on the swing itself.

all star or below doest matter, though I want power like an aaron judge. HOF or legend which is more where I play ideally 95+ contact that I value more than power, and 75 power. im switching out chase utley for andres gimenez for this exact bump in contact once paralled

People don't take power too seriously. You are not hitting a dead center home run with a 65 power card no matter what kind of swing you take 90 percent of the time. They will just fly out right before the warning track. The only saving grace is a created small park will get out. If a card has mid 80's power, then it will depend if they are a pull balanced or push hitter on what they get for power. Over a hundred takes the guess work out of it.

Your problem is trying to hit home runs dead center with those guys. If you aim for the linedrive or groundball part of the PCI with them they hit doubles all day long. People will complain about this game being homerun or bust and just flat refuse to use the cards that hit doubles
