Meter Getting Punished
-
I don’t complain often about this game. But it’s been rough this year. I’m easily walking more people than I ever have.
It feels like if you miss the “meter/slot” at all, even the tiniest amount, the pitch goes absolutely nowhere near where it should. I’ve never had this issue before. I understand control and confidence play into this. But throughout the game and with any pitcher.
I don’t want to move to pinpoint. I tried it a bit last year and hated it.
Definitely makes this year even more of a pain. Seems like those who don’t use pinpoint are punished.

For some odd reason, they are making the push to Pinpoint pitching which I think is very tone deaf in terms of prioritizing the real issues in this game. I just switched to Pinpoint pitching in this year's game. I was a Meter pitcher since MLB The Show 06. You can be 50% accurate on pinpoint pitching and still be well within the range of your desired pitch location. But with meter pitching, you can be 0.00001 degrees off, and for some reason the pitch goes right down the middle or way outside the zone. Much to my chagrin, I moved away from Meter pitching and now play on pinpoint. But if they ever calibrate meter to make it the same (resultswise) as pinpoint, I am going back in a heartbeat lol.

I've been using meter since MVP 2003. Don't have the issues you're describing.

I have come across the exact same issues as OP. Debating if I want to try out PP again, currently dont care for it.

I don't know why they make one option better than the other. Analog was top dog for years and now it's behind meter for reliability.
I still use meter and find that I get better results when I use the pitcher offset view

True. All the streamers used Analog. I still use Meter. I'm terrible at Pinpoint and don't have the patience to spend time in practice for it. I do play offline, but yeah, we get punished at times for being off a bit.

I’ve been getting sick of doing the drawing motions on PPP and have tried to switch to meter a couple times because it seems more realistic to me to mimic the release point timing of a pitcher. I mean if you are pitching/throwing a ball in real life it really boils down to release timing. Let go early it sails and late you spike it. Not sure why SDS is so obsessed with all the joystick movement nonsense.
It’s such a disadvantage to use meter I had to switch back fast.

If the pitcher has a ready up animation, and you don't wait for it to finish, the pitch will be less accurate.

What bothers me more with meter is when I have a perfect release multiple times in a game where the pitch misses by multiple inches. I’ve had it happen 3 times in the same at bat to pretty much “force” a walk. If my timing is off, I’ll take the penalty. If my timing is perfect, let me hit my spot.
