Let me get this straight…when playing online, we now need to factor in 7-9 different things that affect timing windows?
-
Console - Xbox runs smoother? Switch is choppy? pS is in the middle?
-
next gen 120 V old gen 60 - can I turn off next gen cross play?
-
MLB stadium vs Minor league - MLB laggier, field of dreams choppy.
-
distance from opponent / servers - @D_e_m_I_s_E_PSN can write the dissertation on this one and his warping speeds.
-
time of day - servers laggy at peak times
-
wired vs WiFi, monitor vs TV
-
difficulty - HOF, all star etc
-
Co-Op vs 1v1 play
So one game I can be playing a next gen Xbox player in an MLB stadium on all star, then get matched up against someone on current gen in a minor league stadium w ShitForWifi on HOF
Not to mention playing offline on rookie then playing online on HOF
Way too much going on makes it a consistent experience

Until they spend the money to get server hosted games it isn’t going to change. At a minimum we need ping information at the matchmaking screen, that way you can determine if you want to suffer through a bad game.

I can do bp on legend against Nolan Ryan and be early on fastballs then hop online and be blown away by Keuchel and his 91 mph sinker. Good stuff.

Now that ps5 has 120hz and vrr it runs identical to xbox, no? Ps4 is a different story

This is my point lol. No one knows and there’s too many factors in play.
@Victor_SDS_PSN fix this right away.

I didn't notice any difference on 120. Too busy getting blown away by Keuchel's heat. Online is by far the worst I have experienced in this game since I've been playing online. Glad it's playing great for the streamers though. Those 100 people are the important ones.

All I know is I’m fairly certain I got the crud end of the stick more often than not…
Large part of why I didn’t purchase this years game. (Still peruse the forum occasionally out of curiosity).Irony is my internet speed and ping is consistently far and above what would be expected, makes me wonder if I somehow got penalized for that?
Also, for whatever reason, the past couple years I found virtually every team I was matched with had some Chicago name/theme, or other midwestern city.
I live in Virginia.
This was opposed to 19’ where teams seemed to represent Virginia as well, or lots of seemingly New York. And I had a great experience online.Sorry if this is a bit of a tangent not entirely in topic, but venting a bit as someone who largely gave up on the game because I’d have to go on legendary, max pitch speeds, Degrom, just to try and be able to play on AS online.

I just played a guy from Puerto Rico (I'm in MA). Ironically it was a decent connection / speed.
This plays to my point #5, I tend to get better experiences during the day (eastern time, non-peak). If I try to play at night with the whole country on the game, its AssServerShit

I truly think what happens is your internet is so good it matches you up with people quite a ways away like Chicago, St. Louis, etc and then connects to the Chicago server. So they have to travel a very short way to get to the server while your information is going from Virginia to Chicago.
That way creates the least ping as opposed to both going to NY server for instance. SDS doesn't realize that making someone go 1k+ miles is going to result in a bad experience for someone. Usually the person with better internet because the other person is closer to the server even though they have inferior internet. Bottom line is the network engineers for this game are awful.
The last paragraph of yours if the laggy, warping pitch speeds I've talked about for years on here. Most don't understand because their internet is trash and if by a server, they will think the game is great.
It isn't going to change because their precious streamers wouldn't be able to go 75-3. I even tried VPN this year through multiple servers like Denver, Dallas, etc. That didn't work either because I was getting some disconnects. Just have to deal with it or quit. It won't get better. It usually gets worse the less and less people that start to play.

I agree with this too... the crappy servers struggle during peak times and think it has a lot less to do with opponents internet than most think.

The timing “window” for what is considered good timing on a pitch is always the same length of time. What changes is how close that windows opening is to the release of the pitch, and the reason that changes is because of lag. Server, connection, and input lag. If there is so much of it, the window can move so far up that it begins at the release of the pitch.
For example. If on HOF the timing window for a 100mph FB starts at 0.2 seconds and ends at 0.22 seconds from pitch release, but the combined amount of lag is 200ms … you only have 20ms to read and react to the pitch … you basically have to guess. -

Turn off VRR on ps5, I will check again but figured i played one br game with it off last night and it was amazing. Wish I found it earlier

SDS just needs to bring back the ping indicator. It’s been gone since DD became a thing.
