I did DD a little last year towards the end of the year, but already had diamonds just from playing online rated so much. This year, I’m only doing DD, and was looking at programs. Do people actually get 600k XP to get some of these rewards? It seems like that would take a month of playing non-stop.

They release collections/moments/additional conquests etc through the season which gives more xp , basically the content added each season gives you about 200-300k enough to get the boss done with just doing the content , so in between playing and doing the content like mini seasons mean't to give like 100k if played on hall of fame or higher i think i was hitting about 1 million + as i had the 600k done with 2-3 weeks to spare.

There are always peopel who will max out the program every month but to get the main rewards you don't need to go all the way. I think the last big reward in this program comes just after you pass 400K when you get the last of the 12 FOTF packs you can earn. Everythig beyond that is just extra.
And there will be ways introduced to get chunks of XP without relying entirely on Xp earned while playing. For example they almost always release a special conquest map which when finished will grant you a lump sum of XP.
