Rewards should be rewarding, not rage inducing

On Thursday's stream I defended SDS on the program changes against the jackels. Team variety, and their right to make changes to the game, etc, etc. If the systems are always the same, whats the point in the new edition, right?
Well, after several days of grinding, and experiencing the my first "big reward" firsthand, I can say that I was completely wrong.
Three late nights brought me to the end of the USA conquest map with 120K exp. I'm excited (and tired). Of course I want Trout or Seager, but Tucker is a fine consolation and even Haniger is an upgrade. I of course get Murphy, the catcher not even A's fans would choose (side note: are there going to be A's fans this year??).
I've been raking with Will Smith, and just got the upgrade to Piazza, not to mention the 3 or 4 prospects at catcher. As far as I'm concerned he is worthless to my team, the smallest of upgrades. I can't even sell him, and the eventual collection he will go towards will cost 100's of thousands of stubs for the other 18 players, so basically worthless to me there as well.
Herein lies the problem with this system. Yes, its nice that not everyone will be rocking Trout and Seager week 1, but you are basically giving the finger to 20-40% of your player base so that the top 5% will spend more for stubs.
The first big moment I was working towards wasn't a reward, it was a middle finger. This is BAD GAME DESIGN. It is depressing that my launch weekend Sunday is spent complaining, instead of playing, because I feel the effort I already put in wasn't worth anything...sad.

Oh you're stomping your feet and crying because you didn't get the free card you wanted?

Correct, as should everyone else.
"free card", what an odd way to view a program reward. All program rewards are "free", they always have been. However, this year, you don't get to pick your "free" reward, it's randomly generated, and there is a HUGE gap between some of these choices.
"Free" required a tremendous amount of work (time) by the OP. And unless you're retired, time is money my friend.
People didn't complain about inning bosses last year, or in previous years. They may have been less than interested in one or two choices, but they always had a choice, and took the player that fit their team needs best.
In OP's case, he got stuck with a card at a position he doesn't need help. Thus, it was a complete waist of his time. Many of us are unhappy. If you are happy, that's awesome! But understand why being forced to take a card instead of having a choice creates issues. This isn't a team building game mode when the game builds the team for you.

The only problem with the program is the random card in the first 6 packs. That's it.
-
Don't worry. Once they release packs in Conquest and other programs; they'll all be QS value.
-
The no choice packs are basically last year’s henchmen…except the you get a lot more of them and there is a good chance you will get someone that will help your squad. If I recall correctly, last year I got a gold AJ Burnett as my first inning henchman. He played maybe 5-7 games for me before I moved on. I don’t think the TA 1 henchmen amounted to much outside if you were stacking a team to eat innings for a daily mission.
At the very least you do get something for your time and effort…looking back at the ‘program’ to hit doubles with Joe Torre, that wasn’t always the case.
It will be ok. Don’t worry. At 120k xp you are about 15 of the way done with the rewards for a program that doesn’t officially start until Tuesday. Better programs and cards are on the way. Besides, this year’s game encourages you to play baseball…instead of grinding Showdown. I’ll take that trade off.

Time equals money, free?? B please

Or, you could keep playing and know that the true boss packs start happening between around 225K and 400K. During that stretch you will earn 6 more packs that do allow you to choose your reward (and sell the results).
But of course if you have to have Trout before the actual release date or in the first week then you may have to buy it. Otherwise patience and play time should eventually get you there.
