99 Griffey: Anyone else getting some outrageous defensive plays (or lack thereof)?
-
Ken Griffey Jr.'s 99 card in this game has terrific defensive stats, and they only get better when you get him up to P5 like your boy VK has. But I've had 4 very suspicious plays with him in CF in RS that I never had with my previous lock-down centerfielder, whom I also P5'd - Jasson Dominguez.
Two of these four plays were routine fly-outs to CF. As routine as it gets, you have that little blue circle to stand on and you catch the ball. But Griffey's hands are at his sides, and as the ball descends, he's not lifting them!!! The ball bounces two inches from his shoe and rolls to the fence. Twice this has happened - no animation kicks in whatsoever, like the game glitched and didn't realize there was a play to be made.
The other two times, I can't definitively rule out user error on, but now that it's happened twice (compared to zero with Dominguez), I note them. Also on fairly routine balls to CF, you gotta move Griffey over maybe 10-30 feet for the catch, and in the process, he DIVES like a clown for no reason! And you're almost positive you did not press the dive button. The ball rolls to the wall for the inside-the-parker.
I'm curious if anyone else has gotten a particular amount of defensive trouble from Griffey. Should I banish him to a corner outfield spot, or chalk it up to user-error and flukes and keep truckin?

Not me, but I only use him 1/6th of the time as I'm running 6 squads hence the (still no P5s but maybe someday, it's my first year and I like to use all my new toys).
I did have a glitch with Mays the other day. Gwynn was on 1st, first pitch to Mays and Gwynn steals 2nd. The ball is up and in and the catcher, drops it.
Here's the glitch: The catcher throws to second and then the 2nd baseman throws to first and Mays is out. It was the first pitch so no dropped strikeout. The ball didn't hit the bat so no weird ground out, the ball was never in fair territory until the catcher picked it up and threw it and finally, they called it a 2-4 put out which means they called Mays out at 2nd?
Moral of my story (and yours): weird stuff happens in this game that can't be explained sometimes.

I've had some weird animations along those lines. A runner stealing 2nd, the ball almost hits the batter so he gets a 'jump away' animation, but then the game proceeds as if he was hit by pitch, and he jogs down to 1st slowly and is awarded 1B.
.
How about this one, this was new: I'm playing a H2H friendly just a couple weeks ago and I have P5 Adley Rutschman at catcher. The opponent hits a high foul ball behind the plate, and the blue catching shadow shows that the ball will come down just on the side of playable for an out, but it's close to sailing into the seats. So I position Adley there and press nothing else. Suddenly, with the ball descending, he sprints back toward the pitcher's mound about 4 steps, slams on the breaks and sprints back to the blue circle, DIVES at the ball but by then it is too late and it bounces harmlessly to the ground. My opponent thought I was trying to show off and clown him over the easy out and got burnt, but no, 'twasn't me at all doing that! -
Jr has always had some weird errors for me. Frequent enough for me to not use him ever.

Interesting....Reckon I'll swap Trout and KGJ between LF and CF. Trout used to be this kind of card for me (19 for sure, and his LS this year) - great defensive attributes but circus error after circus error out there in the OF, missing balls and doing somersaults, the whole 9 yards. Trout's 99 has been fine tho so that'll be the adjustment.

Not with Griffey, but some of my outfielders will have a sudden, massive loss of IQ when the ball is headed their way, where they don't respond to my controller input properly. They'll go the wrong way, then I'll correct them, and then they won't hustle to get the ball in time. Freaking annoying.
Mind, this is happening with OFs who have high fielding and speed stats.
