I really miss old (PS2) era baseball. Not even because of the absolutely pervasive monetization or the crossover between RTTS and DD - the system isn’t too bad to me, just a lot of menus.

No, the problem is that the developers apparently put about 5 seconds into playtesting the game. Hitting and pitching are fine to me, but running and fielding is absolute trash - controls were better/more responsive and intuitive on Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball for PS1. The opposing AI is almost perfect - robbing home runs, every diving catch nailed, crucial RBIs all over the place. Your AI (RTTS) is about as useful as blind Sandy Koufax in a blizzard, botching basically every pitching appearance and batting like inverse Ryan Dunn.

It’s obvious that the developers don’t try because they don’t have to, and that’s what I miss most about the PS2 era, they would at least spread the license around. I’m super glad that I have game pass too, because I truly feel bad for people who paid for this trash.

    batting like inverse Ryan Dunn.

I just watched a small documentary about him. He was really the life of those jack-[censored] guys. Would do a lot of things no one else would. And apparently was pretty smart. Except for his love of driving fast.

If you are referring to Jon Bois’ piece, awesome. I love their tales of sports oddity!

No, here is the problem with you guys.... you expect a simplistic baseball game from the 90s and that's not the case these days. Its not like Frank Thomas Big Hurt where you shoot up your Playstation and there's you're fixed gameplay. In today's world there are casual players..like the DD crowd and they are stuck with default settings/Sliders. That's not how this game is meant to be played in a realistic way. Think of those players as casual kids..the DD crowd....what you want is a realistic game of baseball right?. So the only way to get there is to put your own effort in and work on your own sliders. I've spent basically close to 100 hours trying to work on sliders and now this game is a gem...it plays so good its better than watching real baseball. And I'm playing at the highest level...Legend hitting and pitching at maxed out pitch speeds. Most of these guys on this site would hate that cause I consider them normies cause they play at All-Star at default pitch speeds or they are DD players but that's okay...not everyone is created equal.

A lot to what your saying, the game itself is absolutely awesome. Its just online that appears to be more than lacking. But it is advertised otherwise and apparently its dedicated to online play.I for one would play the game ( and have) religiously if online were not even available. But it is understandable that some cry foul that they are not gettting what they thought they were paying for. One must learn the difference between actual baseball and whatever that is we playing online. To me they are 2 different games, I wish they werent.

Kinda disagree with you on this, especially with your points on DD - I agree that no baseball game should be easy, but it should control well; as such, baserunning is appallingly bad. I expect to end every season with a losing record, but I do want it to be because I suck and not because im commanding the runners to tag up and they charge ahead, full steam

I think that if they spent a bit more time playtesting it would have really ben excellent. But they botched really key elements of how the game plays - if the controls were 100% tight, there would be no room for complaints, it would be all down to mastering them. The best reasoning ive heard is that baserunning was modified to counter certain online cheese, but it ends up basically ruining the act of rounding the bases.

Was it Shakespeare who said "cheese or no cheese, that is the question"? Or was that Steve Erckle?
