Was the Show 20 that much better?

Ppl will always say a version of something from the past is better than the current version. Whether its this video game, the U.S., the NBA, Super bowl commercials, etc. - the list goes on and on. It's just what people do to complain. I think this game is miles beyond MLB20. Pinpoint pitching and the parallel system on their own, set it apart for me. And that old timers program will likely pop up in the next month or so, it's coming

I thought 20 was great outside of facing Kluber every game but 21 has its own similar issues with that.
I do think losing the XP path hurt the “grind” aspect, especially when you max out an inning. However I’m glad there weren’t 99 overalls on day one like in previous years.
They both have their pros and cons but I really think you’re just feeling burnout. At the end of the day it’s pretty much the same game and a lot of people have been playing the same game for years now.

Or was it the only thing saving my sanity during lockdown?
In 20 there was so much more to do. TA took more than a day to complete, we had an actual XP reward path that took months to complete and couldn’t be done in a weekend. We had that awesome old timers program around this time last year. Idk it just feels like 20 set a bar that just can’t be met again.
TA was actually faster LY as you could simply exchange your way thru the whole thing assuming you had the inventory or stubs to buy off the market. At least this year they require you to play though agree it was ridiculously easy.
I’m torn on the Inning Program changes as you actually get fewer rewards now. At least for me as I typically did max out LY and this year it seems everyone gets to max. I liked the “hidden” Prestige Path last year though so do miss that.
And have to believe the “Babe Ruth” program from LY is coming soon. We also got Beach Ball packs around this time last year with some really good cards so hoping a new pack is coming soon too. Need that SS 97 Chapman!!
-
TA1 was fines until they expanded exchanges for 2 and 3. All timers program will still be coming. You gotta remember we are technically a month behind schedule on everything except for topps now and monthly card. I don't miss the XP path. The rewards were only good your first 1.5 times through. By the time you got around to the level 100 pack(and the prestige program), those cards were already just collection fillers. I think SDS purposely threw in more to do during lockdown and now people are playing the same amount and plowing through everything and it seems like a lot less

at least you can hit kluber more than degrom

I started playing in 19’, so the last three, 20 was my least favorite, and it’s not particularly close.
Edit* - made the mistake of forgetting about all the connectivity issues at the start of this year, which was worse than anything in the 3 years, so not sure how to factor that in. Initial comment was strictly gameplay and design.
-
Last years xp path people just exploited their way through with retro mode afk. So either you did that and ruined the experience or you fell behind. Would have happened this year with rtts.

Have been a regular player of DD now since 17 I can confidently say 21 is my favorite. 21 is well rounded an makes competing programs simple but fun no matter the mode you play. The sheer amount of cards is amazing and the ability to create different teams based on a theme is better then it's ever been. To much focus is put on building a good squad which don't get me wrong running your best squad is awesome but also running a squad of your favorite 85 overall diamonds and hanging in online vs a God squad has its own rush.
I personally have felt some burn out and that's cause this is all I really play so I am approaching the 5th inning as doing the missions and task (showdown) to get to the boss pack and will stop. I suggest this for everyone as the packs after 300 this time allow for this.
The hitting and pitching in this game is in a good spot now that contact has been corrected, bunting is still and issue but it is what it is.
Revisionist history will always make the game before look better as we have the whole of 20 to compared to when 21 is still running its cycle and all it takes is one great content drop make you forget 20 even existed

21 is better than both 19 and 20.
-
21 is probably the best version of this game since '17.
-
I can't remember my years exactly but I think it was 19. The one with Griffey as cover art. I liked the player program much better in those. You had to recreate actual moments during ranked games. So drawing 2 walks and blasting a HR in a game with Griffey card could take you a long time. It felt more like an RPG game set in a sports world. I don't know, I just liked it. This year feels like, spam same quest over and over again to unlock card after spending stubs on cards you cannot get in packs yet.
-
I do think 21 is better in terms of gameplay, (Though I'm not claiming that it's good, simply better). Because foul balls and gravity balls down the middle were more annoying to me then how OP pinpoint is now.
In terms of content, tbh I'm not sure it's better. The timed stuff, no xp is certainly a drawback, though in terms of team affinity I do prefer this years
-
21 is better in almost every way especially gameplay, fielding and pitching is far better, hitting is pretty much the same. You’re forgetting about BR and the added content of that program which is fantastic
-
everyone says the same thing every year, next year when 22 comes out half way through the season theyll say 21 was better, 23, 22 was better, 24, 23 was better.
do you see the correlation here? it never gets better, its the same game, same issues.
im sorry. -
20 Was not better at all. And TA isnt 1 day to complete this year. Only TA3 was. That was just a completely different thing they did. I am sure TA4 will be back to like TA1 and 2 was.
-
21 is better than 20. That said I hate the extra innings rule but that is MLB’s fault.

As an FYI -- Griffey was '17.
Judge - 18; Harper - 19 and Baez was 20'.

I'm playing 20 now and strangely am getting updates for 21. Prime example, not once in the entire time I've played this game the commentators never mentioned the extra innings rule. All of the sudden I bring my reliever out and that's all they can talk about. Been playing well over 6 months and this started today.
