Cancelling the Catcher’s Throw
-
I tried asking the question to a Facebook group and got a bunch of people trying to tell me how to play baseball instead of offering help with the controls, so I’ll try here.
I use button accuracy throwing in the field. Situation is I’m pitching/fielding and there are runners on first and third. Runner on first attempts to steal second, I press Y (Triangle, for you PlayStation guys) to throw as the pitch is on its way to the plate. Catcher receives the pitch and the view switches to behind the plate with the throwing meter that goes straight up from bottom to top. I hit Y again when the meter gets in the green. As this is happening I see the runner on third break for the plate so I try hitting Y again to pump fake/cancel the throw (like you would in the field) but the catcher still makes the throw to second. Is there any way to cancel this throw/pump fake or are you stuck making throw once you hit Y as the pitch is on its way?
Side note: I tried using regular button throwing (no meter) and pure analog throwing in practice mode and was able to cancel the throw on steal attempts there. My only issue with using those controls all game is there’s no control over throwing errors, they’ll just happen randomly depending on the player’s arm rating, and I’d rather using button accuracy in the field because I almost never miss the green and make a throwing error that way. Any one have a tip for canceling the throw on steal attempts with button accuracy throwing? Does anyone use one of the other two settings on a regular basis?

Found out the answer if anyone cares. When the meter appears, press a different button other than the one you pressed to initiate the throw. The catcher will pump fake and then hold the ball.
