Online Rated Hitting Difficulty

The other day I played a match and it seemed as if my opponent was hitting home runs on multiple pitches that did not make much sense. If you choose All-Star difficulty for example, do you get matched up with someone on the same difficulty?

Feels like my opponent was on veteran or rookie and wanted to see if anyone else felt the same.
