Man, I've managed to just spend the $100 and my teams ballin. I play a lot these days cause we are all stuck at home.
I recommend grinding the Moments, all of them. You have to play a combo of online and offline to build the best squad, unless you are an outstanding player, which I'm guessing from your post you do not believe that to be your situation.

oh this is all in march to October. I won 116 games in the regular season with the white sox. im now In game 5 bc I lost game 4 with bases loaded 2 outs on a perfect perfect flyball to center and he had back to back bloop hits to win 1-0. now im down `1-0 bc they hit a bomb off me and im getting good good and perfect perfect for outs

then u watch good pitches and the ump calls them strikes lol

I have been playing M2O the past couple of days with the Padres. You are absolutely correct, it is such scripted garbage it is simply laughable. The presentation is great and all, but at the end of the season I simply felt like I had no control. I could tell whether or not I was going to win or lose based on the first couple batters. I played on dynamic difficulty which I highly do NOT recommend. Only recieved 10 and 11 TA points for playing on HOF/L and winning the division. Better off playing on All Star.
