Is trying to bunt for a hit a thing in MLB?

In real life small ball is dead. Bunting vary rarely happens unless the pitcher is trying to sacrifice the runner over. Seems like now, even more than ever, the pitchers are swinging instead of butting though.
What he said, although I will add pitchers are much better hitters now than they used to be ever since the 5 man rotation became a thing, and the DH became part of the AL. Pitchers used to be an automatic out. Nowadays there are a lot who swing the bat well.
I’m also playing first base in RTTS right now and I’ve noticed what you’re saying. They bunt for a hit way too often and they also do it with two outs or two strikes way more than anyone ever should. I assume it’s to give you more fielding chances but they could stand to cut it down significantly. I also noticed that if you try to cover first on the bunt to third, sometimes the white circle around first base doesn’t appear and you can’t make your guy stay on the base to receive the throw, but if you decide to charge in and it happens to be bunted to third, no one covers first base for you. Should be the second baseman but he’s nowhere to be found.

Yeah I noticed this too but I assume they will patch it eventually.

This is what I thought was true as well but when the game tried to bunt for a hit on me for the third time in one game with the bases loaded I thought to myself, Maybe I don't know how baseball is played anymore.

For 10 years I played RTTS/ franchise about 60/40 split, mostly 3B and some CF. If you’re playing 1B/3B, there’s a ton of bunts. They’ve never calibrated it.

People definitely abuse bunting in this game. It works which is why they do it but it still sucks. See an extreme shift, bunt. Mondesi vs bunt defense, doesn't matter. Just drop it down for a free base.

I get destroyed by this when playing online. Any good tips for pitching against the bunt?

Haven’t seen much of it yet in online play to be honest, but in real baseball pitching up and in produces the most pop ups on bunts. Up in the zone or even right above the zone in general does, but up and in is the best spot. If they got their physics down right in this game, then it should produce the same result.

Problem he’s having is he’s experiencing online opponents spamming the bunt for a hit, not even just sacrifice situations or speedy runners. He could hurt himself by playing a bunt defense too much. It’s a catch 22 when playing people who bunt that much.

Understood but that is the only real way..Shift in this game is overrated and I move those fielders up for me. Hasn't really burnt me but that's the only foolproof way.
