I just looked at the first inning Showdown and you have to win the every mission up to and including the first boss in order to earn your entry stubs back.
In the Divisional Showdowns you have to win the the first six moments, including the first boss just to break even.
Now, add to that the fact that people were having a hard time with them and the fact that yesterday's patch made hitting harder (and PCIs smaller) and it just seems like a recipe in frustration for anyone who is not great at hitting already.
It doesn't excuse the fact that they actually have someone who is paid to look for things that are too much in our favor and change it back to house rules instead of just letting us have this 1 simple thing.
I am definitely not making excuses for them I think they pretty much screwed all the players like myself who are, at best, only average at the game. The elite players are good enough that they will fly through these Showdowns in very little time. It is the rest of us who get screwed when they make hitting harder across the board.
Been my argument from the get go on here. The very good players will breeze through this and get their rewards no matter the difficulty level - certainly at a much faster rate than us average players. What SDS is doing here is making sure the rich get richer.
I was fully prepared to drop a few hundred on this game again this year after how awesome content and most modes were last year. I'm super happy I didn't ante up for stubs at the beginning and won't until I see something that gives us average players a legitimate shot at beating modes like this.
I encouraged about 8 of the madden players in my league to buy the show saying how awesome the game and content was. I'm looking like a major [censored] to them right now.

As somebody who does not have the extra funds to buy tons of stubs, this mode at least was able to pay back my entry every other entry. I am not very good at this game but i enjoy it, and no matter how much I play and practice I don't have the eyes and finger movement of somebody half my age. This leaves me 3 options: 1)Not getting full enjoyment of this mode that I was enjoying trying to finish 2) Play with Directional (Which I don't want to since timing window is so small now) 3) I just have to miss out on 75 Program Points and am left with a game I enjoy but I can only play vs. CPU on lower difficulties. I get there are great players at the game, but there HAS to be a better option then nerf everything because the elite are abusing things (Showdown for FOTF cards). I hated moments last year, but at least I could get 50-75 points for my program each inning because it wasn't all or nothing.

They lowered the rewards throughout all showdowns
If this is true, it's a cheap move.

This company is starting to get blasted for some of the cheap and trash things that they are doing and they deserve every bit of it. I can usually hit pretty well on All star and I just played against Kenley Jansen in the showdown. Needed to get 9 runs on 15 outs. Granted I didn't attempt to do too many of the in between missions but beat the bosses and I think 2 of the other ones. I had Jansen over 100 pitches in relief and he was still dotting the pitches, pitches never slowed down. I lost 15 to 14. This mode really is a pile of [censored] and they fact that rolled it out and just dropped the rewards and lowered the stubs is plain and simple a move that EA does regularly.
They are getting more and more like them everyday and it's a shame.

Lower the rewards, make hitting harder and put Legend fielding Cpu in Veteran difficulty challenges.
How to please your customers 101.

I wish the mode had checkpoints or something. Like the 1st Inning is 70 stars, maybe after you beat the first boss you get 10 stars. Not repeatable, but at least you get something. Then you can keep trying. Beat the second boss and 20 stars. Again just a one time reward but you are getting the stars. Then if you win the final showdown, you get the last 40 stars.
Maybe a dumb idea, I don't know, and the number of stars might need to be tweaked. But the all or nothing is a bit frustrating.
-
Agree. Very disappointed with MLBTS 20.

There is a lot of [censored] that needs to be worked on and hitting wasn't one of them. It was great at launch to actually hear that people were actually enjoying the game instead of the bashing and trashing the greed and stupidity of the developers but man, did that change. XP is given out at a lowered amount, program stars are hard to come by unless you do certain things. This game is just a mess of angry people right now

Took a fun game out of the box and killed it.
-
Yep they did it bc the pack gives u a chance for a diamond or gold. Now it’s only a silver card
-
Loll classic Sds, hey at least we can all look at our locked in collection cards because they wanted it be a more realistic collecting feeling LOL, now they nerf rewards when they realize they over compensated something, don’t complain tho people will just call you a cry baby, funniest thing is the “Sony Partners” will talk this game up when this current state of gameplay is extremely on par with what 18 was

Youtubers were gaming the Showdown system for packs and stubs, whether it was fair or not, it was a crappy look so SDS had no choice but to adjust the rewards in order to remove the ease at which you take advantage of the mode.
I dont blame SDS, i blame the chumps who spend hundreds of dollars to buy the best teams to impress their viewers but still felt the need to game Showdown in their videos for a few extra packs.
Ive been playing MLB The Show for few years now, and SDS gives us tons of free players and packs.....they are far more liberal with their content then any studio ive ever dealt with.....but they cant let people show the player base how to cheat the system.
Its like any game advantage these days. Once Twitch and Youtube "stars" hear about it, they cant help themselves, they must abuse it in order to squeeze an extra sub or two out of it.
SDS would never have touched the mode if it wasnt turned into an attempt to gain "views" and therefore money, by players who make "MLB The Show" videos.
Thats what ive gotten out of the situation, at this point.

Don’t defend SDS on this. The game was developed over months. These reward structures were designed by SDS. Having to get 3 runs in 15 outs for a pack against gold Saberhagen on veteran wasn’t a glitch or an exploit, it was literally a design feature. Having to drastically alter basic components of the game a week after release is a failure by the developers/designers nothing more.

A lot of shills here man. They designed it,tested it and put it into game. Now when players are using their design to win packs and stubs they nerf it because they hate you and want your money.
