FIX THE #%*& BASE RUNNING !!!!

Yeah I've hit doubles into gaps and had baserunners literally just freeze in between 2nd and 3rd staring at the outfield instead of scoring, and then the batter even catches up to them and causes a jam. Even though I never stopped holding L1
yeah i use classic or button base running and this is true stated above, press up and circle and then i get a baserunner caught in between 2nd and third and one not going home, this happens all the time, this has been happening for over a week. granted, i play cpu only anymore but jeez thats a frustrating part of the game....

I haven't had too many issues so far. Baserunning can be frustrating without a lot of practice though. There's a lot going on. Are you having the issue when controlling all runners at the same rime or more when you're manually controlling one?
They are going back to previous bases on hit balls and obvious base hits to the outfield and getting thrown out on second base. It happens before you even start controlling the base runners, and then I am running them all.
Ahh gotcha. I have had that happen a few times on balls that dropped just in front of outfielders. Nothing too wild so far but I haven't played online yet either lol

I am so sick and tired of getting eliminated from moments, events and losing runs and games because of the on base runners running the wrong direction on hits. It was so out of hand in 2020 and nothing at all has been done to correct it in 2021. What a joke !!!!
Running the wrong direction? Like instead of going 2nd to 3rd, they go 2nd to 1st? First time hearing of this, sucks broham. ADD IT TO THE IST lol

Yep this happened to me last night. I should have gotten another run, but at least I still won that game lol.

Why does it take the base runners forever to stop and change direction? Or to take off running when a ball is thrown away or booted? The base running all around is brutal

I think it has to do with the online dbags that run back and forth to catch people off guard. There was a few years ago that you could stop and return almost at will and then it changed. I have no evidence for it but I can see that being why they take so long because the animations are so over acted

I somehow overshot 1st on an single. By the time my guy responded to my input he was more than halfway to 2nd and easy tagged out.
Hit a double and same thing. Somehow my guy overshoots 2nd and by the time the game listens to my “return” input I’m easily tagged out.
This happens too often

Gotta press button first then direction in classic. No need to hold button. Eg to advance runner on 2nd to home, press triangle then d-pad down.

You guys are missing the best one. Runner on second with a slow chopper up the middle. Easy scoring play to get a run right? Nope not with this terrible programming. Runner slides into third base and loses all momentum. Then we he does get up is to late to run home but you didn't know so now you go to send him back to third and as gracefully as a toddler learning to walk attempts to go back only to be tagged out.
-
I think the most annoying part of base running is when the game is making the motion for the standard lead off and the pitcher throws instantly. You have to have great reflexes or hold the return direction 100% to avoid it. It just seems like a cheesy mechanic to me. I have never been picked when I am taking a lead or controlling my player but the moment the game starts that initial motion for me I lose like 25% of the time.

Avoid using L1/R1 bumpers to advance runners. Use classing baserunning and select them individually using buttons and d-pad. In the situation you described, that runner from 2nd would have been directed to home (triangle then d-pad down) within one second of the ball being hit and the batter directed to 2nd (X then d-pad up) ready to change his destination back to 1st (d-pad right) if the ball is fielded cleanly while he’s still on his way to 1st.
Trust me on this one and set up some scenarios in practice mode. Classic (avoiding the bumpers) is the most efficient baserunning interface in the game once you realise you don’t have to hold the buttons when selecting your runners.

Is this in RTTS? It’s annoying in that there’s no logic to pickoffs I agree. But at the same time I love how it makes you focus on the pitcher before he sets. I find it best to watch only the pitcher’s legs in this case.

The AI is elite in everything when you play against them, but when they are on your team they are dumb and slow with lousy defense

This^ Years ago you could never catch someone stealing online. If you got a bad jump or were about to be thrown out, you could easily return to first and be safe. The fix was nice at first, but now the base running mechanics are horrible. I’m sorry, but not every runner stumbles like an infant when changing directions. What’s the point of base running attributes if they don’t do anything?

When you hit a ground ball, you advance the runners NO MATTER WHAT. WTF WTF WTF the baserunners rushing back to their base and stay there when I hit the f*cking ground ball!!??????????
