Issues playing with friends, PS5 and series X

For some reason I have not been able to play with friends who are cross platform. After sending game invite and both parties join it still shows as waiting for opponent. This has been an issue since launch.

Having the same issue, can't play psn players from Xbox even though they're on the friends list. Can't even toggle crossplay on and off.
