At least you got a diamond bro. Take it from me, that's not bad. You're better off buying players off the market. Of course that isn't as exciting as opening packs, but yeah it doesn't frustrate like the packs do.
That's not bad? That's pathetic. I don't have time to grind programs and/or earn even stubs to field a decent team. Which is why I went the route of packs. I wanted to give online a try since RTTS and franchise are basically the exactly same as the past 3 years.
The thing is that DD is for the long haul you have to grind and if you spent $100 you could have easily picked up 3 of the 42 series legends or there are a number of low level diamonds that are in the 85-87 range that would be competitor the next 2 weeks for sure. That said you have to keep at this as each month the cards get bigger and better and just pulling packs won't get the job done. You have to put in the work that is way DD isn't like the rest as you can put in the time and you will be rewarded
I've got a question for you on this as I'm a new Xbox player. When you say keep at it each month, what does that entail? For example, let's say I assemble a team of high golds and low diamonds that work well for me now, what will I need to be doing throughout the year in order to upgrade my team as better cards come out? Is it basically just grinding programs, conquest, moments, TA, showdown, stuff like that?
Also, I don't love the thought of playing ranked seasons or BR, I'm new to the game. Is there another mode where I can grind with my DD team (not a drafted team) and get lots of stuff from doing that?

First, 100.00 worth of packs is a VERY bad strategy. Second,, what would you have done with offline modes? It's baseball. There's only so much that can be done with it.
I am not sure what you mean.. What would I have done with offline modes? I've been buying and playing the show since like 2011. I always stick to offline mode. Outside a little conquest and moments I don't play DD. I figured I would give it a try this year.
Yeah I know that now. I see all these youtube people pulling packs and getting diamonds. I wasn't expecting an all star line up. But for $100 I figured I'd get at least 5-6 diamonds. Never again. Clearly SDS is giving these people diamonds to trick people into buying the [censored].
By odds you should never have expected 5-6 diamonds. They list the odds you know.

I believe it actually says diamond player odds are 1:50.
Maybe you’re right. The point stands. If it’s 1-in-50 odds of pulling a diamond player, then in 100 packs or so, getting 2 diamonds is average, 1 is somewhat unlucky, 0 is very unlucky.
That's not how odds work

Packs are a gamble. This may come as a shocker, but gambling comes with risk of losing.
