Read an article about this game stating that Sony was forced to make this game for Xbox by the MLB. It stated they didn’t want to, but had no choice. Since we now know that Sony isn’t calling the shots anymore as regards to the game, do you think we will see this game turn into a heavy microtransaction game like the other sports titles?

They are still calling the shots as far as the development of the game, just has to be on Xbox to keep the license

That’s not what the quotes suggest in articles I’ve read.

True story. Guy I work with told me about Xbox getting the show in 2021 about 2 years ago. Told me his brother in law worked for mlb or whatever ....I brushed it off like he was shooting beans.
And back then he told me Sony is going to be forced to put it on Xbox or lose the licensing.
Well I saw him a few weeks ago and he was like “told you”
I have to believe he isn’t shooting beans at this point
And he literally called the year it was happening and everything.

When it comes changes made like adding new modes or changes to current modes in the game its a Sony owned IP & Sony calls all the shots. The only change is MLB made them go multi plat, xbox this year & maybe Nintendo down the road.

That’s why exclusive licensing is not good for sports games in general. Played NHL exclusively from 93 to 04, then went 2K for awhile before NHL came back in force with 09. Same with MVP and MLB in late 90’s early ‘00s. XBox players would have had a decent baseball game before this year, of course

Here's the article
By reading it, I don't think MLB made SDS develop the game for Microsoft; I think it states that the MLB wanted the game put in Game Pass so more people would give it a try.

There is more than one article

I interrupt some of the quotes differently I guess. From what I read it seems Sony is in a “do what you’re told” position. That’s why I wonder if down the road they add contracts, injury cards, player boosts, and just make it harder in general to field a good team without real money attached to it. The other leagues get a piece of that pie.

It sounds like Sony/SDS simply got played. MLB is never going to take it off of Gamepass and most Gamepass subscribers aren't going to put up with over-the-top, EA-style MTX unless the gameplay vastly improves, and even then there's too many great games on Gamepass to dedicate hundreds of hours into one.
Ultimately, I'd be surprised if SDS is still developing the game in 3-4 years. They're now developing a game that went from a "system seller" to one that is theoretically hurting playstation sales.

I agree with the system seller part. The thing is, this game is being introduced to next gen basically as a port this time around. It’s not really a next gen version, hence cross gen play.

I would love to see any articles that states that major league baseball is now basically telling SDS how to make the game. Yes thwy want more people that can play the game and it being on game pass for the 15 bucks a month gets people that might not play baseball or are on the fence the in they need to play it.
I have never seen anything that shows mlb is calling the shots as far as game development.

No sport league is telling a developer how to develop their game lol

That really isn't telling them how to develop the game at all, that's part of the licensing agreement with major league baseball. Major difference from being told to go to Xbox or no fighting to developing a game.
