I don’t know if you guys noticed it in the tech test but it takes a lot more damage now for the pitcher’s confidence to be depleted. That’s a huge improvement
Elaborate plz?
Your pitcher doesn’t lose his confidence after a blooper, a walk and an extra base hit. It takes a lot more for the pitcher’s confidence to be gone. So, even if you get in trouble in an inning you can still get out of it while not allowing any runs.
In the show 20 the pitchers lost their confidence way too fast and that had a huge impact in hitting outcomes, a pitcher with zero confidence was easier to hit.

I don't think 90% of you even know what RNG is or what it is used for. With no RNG, there would be no reason to be excited for new Legends, or ever even upgrading your team. Most player ratings would not matter at all. Power, contact, h/9, etc. PCI size cannot be the effect of every player rating, and pci size doesn't even make much difference on higher difficulty levels. The PCI is always small on harder levels. Why do you want every one of your cards to play exactly the same?
That's not RNG, those are definable stats that have a verifiable and quantifiable effect on the game.
I view the RNG as sometimes subtle, sometimes not so subtle nerfing or buffing of outcomes for either side to make the game more interesting or competitive.
This year was my 1st year playing this and I could tell there was something that would swing momentum one way or another but I couldn't nail it down.
I agree some level of RNG is needed to help emulate luck, and randomness in life, but some games I just knew there was no way I was wining the game based on my inputs vs. what I was seeing on the screen. It was like I was playing against a stacked deck. I've also been the beneficiary of this as well... But I think the better player you are the more things like this tend to go against you.
100% input doesn't work in a game like baseball where you can smash a ball but right at a fielder, or you can get jammed and bloop a single etc... Goes for pitching too... there's an element of randomness in even the most accurate pitchers, even when they feel like they let it go perfect. So many variables in a game like this there always needs to be some randomness to it.
This year though I felt like managing the "RNG Swings" was a really big part of the game, and sometimes nothing I did seemed to be effective. That's a crappy feeling.
Those abilities on cards are used in RNG calculations.
-
If you are using Trout with high Power you have a better Chance that RNG is going to calculate a home run outcome.
-
RNG is put into the calculations. It’s not a thing all by itself that determines your fate.

What about missing strike zone b/c if people can't pitch and/or hit strike zone won't this bail them out and be able to use longer?

RNG is put into the calculations. It’s not a thing all by itself that determines your fate.
I understand that.. but here's an example of a game I just played...
8 innings of shutout baseball, 15k+, only contact and weak hits my opponent got were when I would purposefully throw something hittable to keep my pitch count down. Whole game I'm hitting the ball solid just right at people, lots of hits, guys on base, I just can't score.
Bot of 9th inning I'm up 1-0. Starter is at 75 pitches, full confidence... 1st batter 2 strikes... weak grounder through the infield on a ball outside the zone. 2nd batter, 2 strikes... weak blooper falls in for a hit on a ball outside the zone. 3rd batter, 2 strikes.. ground ball to 3rd (on a ball way outside the zone), should be dp, ball hits bag kicks towards dugout bases loaded. 4th batter 2 strikes... ball way low and outside the zone hits oppo line drive on the line game over I lose.
Things like that have happened way too much in 20. I understand how the numbers would be plugged in but there was something that would just override things and def. lean the advantage one way or the other at certain points. I've gotten better at recognizing it as it's happening and trying to make a change or mix something up to get out of it, but sometimes it just feels like it's taking you for a ride.

It does often feel that way. I cannot imagine them making a decision to put that in the game, but I agree that it does certainly feel that way at times.

THAT I am 100% against. There is no reason imo they cannot balance the game, and balance input with player cards, without resorting to things such as that.

I didn’t pay attention to that scenario, I can say that pitches on the black felt more balanced. More pitches there are called for strikes and checkswings aren’t broken, so, I believe people will throw more strikes.

That depends on the pitcher. That’s why they are nerfing RNG and putting the power back in the player because no one wants to feel like they are playing a random series of uncontrollable algorithms. It was worse in 20 then I’ve ever seen it in any game.
I don’t think anyone wants cards to “not matter”.I’ve just seen too many perfect perfect outs in CLUTCH situations that are absolutely game breaking. 1 man on in the 9th down one— you can’t give me 2 perfect perfect outs and a good good line drive to lose. Sorry. That’s just ridiculous and I’ve seen it happen COUNTLESS times. I don’t care who is pitching. If three consecutive inputs that are good to perfect are not rewarded to tie the game. That is not RNG that is ROBB- ERY

This is just confirmation bias. You believe it's a thing, so you search for evidence to suggest that it is(and remember all of the times that you've been screwed by it), while also overlooking all of the bloop hits you have gotten on bad swings or lineouts for your opponent. It's baseball. Sometimes you hit the ball hard right at someone. It sucks when you do it in clutch situations. It doesn't mean the game is rigged for or against you.

Exactly. But if these guys don’t win it must be the game is rigged against them.

I feel that way too when that happens. But it’s not the game rigged against you. It is that their pitcher is clutch in those situations. Gotta score runs before their closer can get a chance to do that to you in a clutch situations like the 9th inning.

If it happens as PG described and is caused by what you’ve described then that’s the game playing the users, not the other way around. Why even have the users at all if this is the cause?

Because it is both. In this example the fact that the pitcher had a good clutch rating won the battle of the two. That is why you want good cards. Otherwise why have pitchers with good ratings? Why care which Legends are coming out this year? It has to be both or the game fails for everyone, unless you just do not care who is on your team and you just want 100% input to matter. Some people do. Personally, I want my cards and my input to matter equally. If MLB The Show is just a video game to you, and not a baseball game with players who perform somewhat like they do in RL, then it is just a generic video game to you. Makes me laugh when I see people who want input to be all that matters get excited about the new Legends.
Why get excited about new Legends if you do not want the new Legends to make a difference on your team?

Plus that scenario is one person, in one game, for one inning. SDS statistics show that perfect/perfect input will have a good outcome 80% or more of the time. Swing those odds even more in your favor by having good players on your team.

SDS has done nothing to give me any faith in the statistics they released and until they show me otherwise I must assume these numbers are just another self-serving attempt by SDS to try & prevent the majority of its dissatisfied users from deciding to no longer buy the game and wasting their time/money.

Simple, you don’t make cards with 100+ ratings, you cap ratings at 99 and work from there. 100+ ratings have been messing up this game since they were introduced in 2018 with the immortals. But SDS don’t listen, so expect more RNGesus this year.
