I reckon you guys would consider me a casual. My record in ranked last year was about 61-34, and I never climbed higher than WC.

Here are a few comments on gameplay for me thus far, FWIW to others who maybe have not bought the game yet, or for discussion.

    Pitching:
I alternated between pulse and analog last year but defaulted to pulse because I was more consistent with it and it seemed like even good releases at times yielded random outcomes (meatballs) with analog.

So far this year, I have completely abandoned pulse because I cannot consistently hit my spots at all. Tom Glavine’s era online is over 10 after his first outing. I am not particularly great at analog, but have had better results so far and have faced a few of you who throw dots all game.
I still experience random results with good releases, hence the ongoing debate of input vs attributes.

    Fielding:
I am on “assist”. I’ve noticed the game selects a fielder further away from the play in the infield sometimes. Usually by the time I select the nearer fielder, the ball is through to the outfield.

I’ve also had a glitch where I camped under an infield fly (not called) and could not catch the ball, pick it up, or choose another fielder. Two runs scored and the play was recorded as a home run.

Outfield has been fine for me. Griffey jr in Center has tracked down just about everything.

I have seen a lot of unforced errors online, both mine, and my opponents.

    Hitting:
I am not a great hitter. I bat around .245 on the year last year with an OBP around .320

So far in four RS games, I am hitting .192 with OBP of .252. I am really struggling with the pitch speed. I am early or very early on most pitches. A bunch of my perfect perfects have fallen for hits, and some good squared have died at the track.
Offspeed pitches seem to move a ton.

I heard that SDS was saying input would matter this year and there would be a greater skill gap. I might be proof of this, but overall, I feel like I am having to relearn the game from scratch.

    FWIW.

Weird, I am having the opposite experience. (Though I use Meter for pitching and don't use assist).
I've been absolutely crushing the ball and it's falling. Pitch speeds aren't ideal, but I def notice less foul balls. I'm still getting strikeouts.

The only abundance of errors i've noticed was doing the Eck moments for a complete game shutout and my defense behind me sucked, failed twice because of defense lol.

I think the pitch speeds in the early rs stages are too slow and there is way too much rng. I think this game will shine in HOF made once inget there.

I am hoping so. The beta played really well for me on HOF.

I’m not sure which setting I usually use. The only options are “assist” and “auto”.

I’m gonna log back into 19 to check this...

My bad, I do use assist. I got confused and thought you were talking about the throwing meter for some reason.

Meter pitching is a game of roulette...again, perfect releases either hit their spot or they miss completely and/or hang centre cut. It's nice they made user input matter more in the hitting and fielding categories but until they actually fix pitching, a pretty important part of the sport, I'll be avoiding DD completely this year.

Interesting that your pitching experience echoes mine, albeit with meter instead of pulse.

Here's my take on things and I'll try to be as direct as possible.

Pitching: More difficult and very delayed. It wasn't like this last year but i guess that's what happens when people who play competitively influence how the game is made.

Fielding: ZERO SENSE OF URGENCY!!! The fielders stand there like kindergardeners on the t-ball field. Noone moves as fluidly as they did last year. Long story short. It needs to be fixed so people can run down fly balls regardless of their rating. Ratings have no bearing on real baseball players...stop making it seem like it does.

Batting: The new PCI is the most hokey #### I've ever seen. You've basically gimmicked it to try and give it some style and have made it exponentially harder for the casual players to come in and play. Perfect-Perfect is a joke. Apparently we've never heard of the saying if its not broke don't fix it.

As a whole I'm glad I wasted $100 on this game and an additional $100 on stubs to get nothing out of packs while people who are your pet partners are out here pulling diamonds out of every pack they open. Needless to say if this is the direction the game is going I will likely go back and play 19 cause at least then I had a chance of hitting the ball and making plays without worrying about if my guy is going to stand there picking his nose while the ball trickles by him.

Adding to fieldng....when someone tags a baserunner and they're called safe....after sliding STRAIGHT THROUGH THE TAG (NOT AROUND IT).....THERE'S A PROBLEM

Well, Glavine’s ERA is down to 6.00 after his second start, and he managed a fluke double down the line as well. There’s hope for Tom yet!
I will say, I had an early ok home run by Aaron Hicks. Sorry opponent!

Actually, I found pulse was significantly more forgiving last year. As I said, I won 61 Ranked games using pulse in 19. Occasionally, I switched to analog when it seemed my opponent was on everything, because I miss in different ways with it.
