Speedy Players with Bad Jumps

(CPU Conquest) So for some reason, even though Ty Cobb has 99 speed and steal, even though I pressed the button to get a good jump, the baserunning animation ruins any chance I have at stealing.
This happens with other speed demons with similarly-high baserunning stats, and happens when stealing second and stealing third. Sometimes the animation won't screw me over and I will get a good jump, but other times the animation will make the baserunner stupidly slow to react.
It happens during other plays too, when the ball is put in play. Why is it that the best baserunners in the history of baseball are constantly having brain farts?

My guys usually get a pretty good jump off first... or good enough, as long as I slide to the back of the bag. But when I try to steal third? WOOF. Guys with 99 steal ratings will wait until the ball has left the pitcher’s hand to even start running. I don’t get it. I have to defensively swing a lot if I see the jump is horrible.

Cobb isnt programmed the best for stealing, that's for sure. Ive had way better success with Rollins/Mondesi than him. I dont know if it's the 99/99 thing, or his height, but hes definitely programmed badly.

I had this problem with Kyle Lewis in BR. AWFUL jump that would have cost me the game if I didn't come back clutch to win it in the 4th.

I use classic baserunning...and rather than hitting or holding L2 and then releasing and letting the CPU get my jump for me I do this:
Press L2, immediately followed by holding R1 to active runner diving back on a pickoff. Then, when (while still holding R1) tap L1 to increase my lead. As soon as the pitcher begins home, either spam L1 or tap L1 repeatedly and you runner will advance (be sure to let go of R1, or your runner will turn back to the base you came from and get cut down).
I get thrown out very infrequently with good base stealers.

Yeah it happens to everyone and is seemingly luck of the draw

Not sure if Cobb is the best base stealer, but I love him as a base runner.

Same!! I just wish they'd programmed his stealing better, considering that he was the all-time base stealer until his record was broken decades later.

SDS ruined stealing, way too hard to steal on the CPU now.

I agree! I used to be the stealing queen, but it's gotten harder for some reason.
Heck, I'll even get picked off by pitchers who don't have the Pickoff Artist perk. Like come on—not everyone is Julio Tehran. It's not that I'm not paying attention (my eyes are on the pitcher the whole time), it's that the game literally just cuts cameras to the pickoff without giving me the time I need to react (and with my killer reflexes, I don't need much).

Because the devs had brain farts while programming the base running. It’s so infuriating sometimes

I've seen Lester throw over multiple times. That's some realism right there.

I find that just pressing L2 and letting the cpu do the rest is the best way to go. Trying to time the pitcher yourself seems to lead to bad animations. I also find that if the pitcher throws over the jumps will be bad too. So if I get a throw over I scrap the steal altogether.

Kenny Lofton. Use Kenny Lofton. You can be on third in two pitches.
