I often hear, “if he gets past 70 [insert attribute], he crosses a threshold,” and “if he gets to 80 [insert attribute], then he crosses another threshold.”

My question is: In this game, as an example, is it insignificant for someone’s attribute to be 76, as opposed to 72? Do you have to cross a threshold of 10’s for it to be impactful in the game?

The main one is the fielding attribute and the shield you see underneath the player in a game. 0-59 will be common shield. 60-69 bronze shield. 70-79 silver shield. 80-89 gold shield. And 90-99 diamond shield. The better the shield, the better animations a player will get when making a play on the ball in the field and just the amount of errors they will make in general.

Supposedly SDS also says that 80 power is a threshold where if you hit a perfect-perfect fly ball that it will be a home run but that ones a load of [censored] to me because I’ve hit so many warning track shots on perfect fly balls with Jim Thome against righties it’s unbelievable.

Thanks for helping me understand. Are there “shields” for other attributes (like reaction)?

The thresholds you speak of are usually going to be the point at which they gain a passive quirk. For example, any player who has 75+ power from both sides will then have the bomber quirk, which states “This player excels at hitting home runs.” Now, passive quirks such as this have no effect. The bomber quirk being added is just confirmation that this player has 75+ power from both sides. It doesn’t give any additional boost over and above the 75+ power. Quirks like Walker or Thief are also passive and merely indicate the players has a high discipline or stealing stat. They don’t receive an additional boost as a result of the quirk.

There’s more information about quirks here:

No, the shield aspect only has to deal with fielding, but reaction and the other stats are still important. I just don’t think they really have thresholds that determine how good the other attributes are. Just the higher the number the better.
