Tatis vs Honus
-
Interesting debate; who would you rather have at the SS position? So I'm not talking about out of position or playing them both in the infield. If you have to pick 1 to play shortstop for your team, who do you pick and why?
-
I loved Honus last year, but I’m loving Tatis more this year. I think it all depends on your lineup needs. Top of the order for Honus. Middle of the order Tatis.
-
I have a soft spot for the old timers so I’ll go with Honus.
-
I'd have to play with Honus a bit, (He's the only boss I don't have), but right now I'd lean Tatis just because he's been on fire for me lately.
-
I loved the Honus card last year but haven't tried this years yet. I've got Tatis Jr at SS now and I'm loving his D there. I'm still struggling to hit with him, but being a Padre fan and seeing how most people are hitting well with him I'm sticking it out and hoping I'll come around with his bat. I plan on getting Honus too and playing him at 2B.
-
I think Honus has more value outside of SS, more valuable as a 2B. So in this instance if I had to play one over the other id go with Tatis, reasons: 1) Tatis swing is great/quick (early HR bombs routinely) 2) Defense and Speed are covered 3) Power vs RHP is maxed...the most important stat in mlbts competitive play 4) You're sacrificing contact/speed only with choosing Tatis over Honus...whereas you're sacrificing a ton of PWR choosing Honus over Tatis.
If you're okay sacrificing PWR then you're better off replacing Hornsby and get the huge upgrade in defense and speed...IMO.
-
Probably Tatis right now, but I will probably have 1 of them at 2B. On paper Honus looks pretty much like a right handed version of Cobb in the infield and I really like using Cobb
-
I used honus last year and liked him but was surprised when he hit homeruns. For me tatis has been a monster. Basically a second trout. His d is amazing so no fall off there. Something about Jackie’s swing works for me and he is still batting around 420 so no need for a lead off hitter. I’m sticking with tatis batting in the middle of my lineup. Will take foxx and use behind the plate.

Tatis is basically Trout at SS. So, Tatis.
However, I've got both in my lineup. Tatis at SS, Wagner at 2B and moved Hornsby to 3B.
-
I think the correct answer is both. .Put tatis at second and honus at short. Either move hornsby to third or sell him..
-
I'm going to implement both but Tatis keeping SS. His power and D is fantastic.

I think red tatis is better at short with that 91 reaction but honus' speed will allow him to get to more balls or am i thinking about it wrong?

That's why I specifically said you have to pick one

but you don't have to pick one. you can play both so it's a flawed premise..

Honus this year is just slightly toned down from last year does this effect him at all. Last year he had 125 for right and left contact looks like the biggest change was his discipline

shouldn't really notice it that much tbh

Sigh. That was the whole idea of this thread. You think I don't understand you don't have to pick one because you can play both? The hypothesis was you can only play one, who will you pick? I specifically said this because I knew there would be a Billy like yourself who would point out the obvious that you can play both.

sigh.. there are a bunch who say they are playing both but you know only take offense to one.

Everybody in this thread made a pick and then added that they will most likely end up using both. You are the only one who said the only correct is answer is both, and when I pointed out that this thread was specifically intended to make a hypothetical choice between the two, you replied with a smarta$s comment. That's why I "took offense".

I think Tatis is up there with Trout as the best hitters in the game this year. Not sure how Honus plays. Even if he plays like last year still would have to go Tatis. That extra power makes a big difference.
