You don't need to take a lead to steal, it's very easy without it.

As said above, take the lead and get picked.

But my guess is your concern is more along the lines of is there a trick to picking people off? That I have yet to figure out. Lol. And I hope someone here has an answer.

This is why the community is so great! No actual baseball fans. Only video game fans. We should team up against SDS rigging stuff vice each other.

This may shock you, but you can dislike the way leadoffs are set up in this game, while still being a baseball fan.

People act like they are entitled to taking those steps, when in real life, if a pitcher throws over a couple times, the runner is going to concede a little ground, not taking the same leadoff 50 times in a row.

If every single time you get a speedy runner on, you take a lead and steal, I'm going to be aware of that and stop it

This. If a guy insists on getting that lead with a fast runner, I just step off every time...it becomes a game of chess but I won’t let him get it. Sooner or later he just stops taking it to get me to pitch...

Yeah I'll step off every time. The game gives every baserunner a lead. And that lead is already good enough to allow a steal.

THIS! Pick offs are so broken. You can try to pick someone off, but you're just as likely to throw the ball away. And it takes away stamina from your starter.

If you take an extra step, I step off. Every time. You're asking for an advantage, I'm not letting you have it. It's pretty simple really.

I've had guys try this for upwards of 15 minutes and I just laugh. I've had guys rage msg me and I laugh a little harder. Then when it gets into the late game and they're losing they'll step off not knowing they can only do it 3 times if I don't take an extra lead.

So is there a trick to picking these people off? Or are we just all going to repeat we hate people taking a lead? Lol

Haha exactly what I was thinking. OP was clearly asking about that but everyone just jumped in with the “don’t take a lead” stuff.

Until trying DD this year I have always played offline vs the CPU. Sometimes I forget and just take the extra lead without thinking since I always did it in the past. I have been picked off at 2B at about a 95% rate when I forget and take that step and they go for the pickoff. Yet when my opponent does it and I try to pick them off he gets back. I’ve literally never picked someone off 2B and I just finally picked someone off 1B a few days ago. I feel like there is some kid of trick to pickoffs or a quicker way to get back to the bag then the normal controls.

Nah, I wish. Your options are to keep throwing over (which saps stamina) or keep stepping off.

The only thing I can say for sure is that whenever you see someone take a massive (greater than 3 step) lead, step off. It's a cheesy glitch where if you throw over, it'll sail into the stands.

Thankfully, I’ve not ran into it as much this year(probably due to not playing RS, just events) but I remember last year it was often and I had some epic step off battles that would ruin my nights.

I know this couldn’t ever work, and probably unpopular opinion, but I kind of wish they’d take the option to take an extra lead out. It’s unnecessary in RS
