How Do You Overcome the Terrible Pitching?
-
By pitching better
-
Lol should’ve known that was coming, opened myself up to that one
I mean, do you start your pitch slightly outside the zone? I just don’t know how to overcome the dogshit randomness to pitching.
-
Practice and seriously focus when you release & when you do have good to perfect release, say a prayer.

like, it shouldn’t come down to that. But sadly, it’s true
I’ll hit my spots and the pitch will simply miss....just late on the meter? Pitch goes higher for a ball...just early? Nope, it’ll go lower
Yet another aspect of this game that makes no sense. Wondering why I keep playing this game thinking that if I do things better, my luck will turn around. Lmao I’m an idiot bc obviously this game is just a dice roll more often than not.

I am good at pitching, so I quite enjoy it. Hitting on the other hand...

I find the view and settings helps, I use pure analog, pitching view pitcher and ball marker classic on. Rather than north south I do a lot of east west. Cutters start on the black and break outside, sinkers same thing but use the movement to your advantage. change up down down down. every now and then sprinkle some high heat or sinkers high and inside, but not too much or you'll start getting crushed.

Please share your tips.
Obviously I know to mix locations and pitch types. Avoid falling into patterns etc.
But I’m referring to just the terrible randomness to pitching....just feel like you’re at the mercy of the game in terms of if your pitch will hit its spot or not

Throw some sinkers right down the middle sometimes, you'd be surprised how many people are sitting on the corners and can't hit a meatball.

A lot of that is dependent of the players attributes, such as the overall control and the control of each individual pitch. I LOVE Maddux for this reason, has insane control and very good movement. Try him, and if you are still having issues hitting your spots, then I'm sorry to say that it's probably you and just need to practice.

ha, actually get quite a few whiffs when I screw up and do pitch a meatball now that I think about it.

I’ve used analog since 17 and my rotation is full 99s with good control (I place a premium on control) I’ll hit my spots going down and up and more often than not the pitch still misses slightly. And I always start my pitches on the corners so missing slightly leads to balls, getting behind in the count, and then when I start a pitch in the zone, it misses in the middle to get crushed.
Literally don’t know what else to do
-
Well, I am only a wildcard level player but the biggest thing I rely on when pitching is being unpredictable. 3-2 count, people are usually sitting fastball so I throw them an off-speed pitch. And sliders are the best off-speed pitch in the game. I can't use a pitcher who doesn't have one (or a slurve).
-
Just my opinion but with the increased pitch speeds this year, I think SDS wanted to offset that added difficulty by making pitches miss more often than not
-
I don't play Ranked Seasons, but vs. CPU, a lot of times my pitches—even fastballs—will do that to me. Either that, or they'll go right to the middle of the plate. I know it varies from pitcher to pitcher (PS Charlie Morton is perhaps the worst offender in giving up bombs, from my playing experience), but it's annoying nonetheless.
-
I've only been able to play about 30 ranked games this year but I've got a sub 2 ERA. What works for me is when facing an opposite hand hitter I work the hard stuff inside and try to jam them. Same handed hitters I work my way outside and try to get the K with a breaking ball away. If I give up a home run then I double up with that pitch which throws people off. Not sure if any of that helps
-
I just take a guy like Nolan Ryan and aim down the middle figuring no way he's going to put it anywhere close to where I aim
-
I love these get better , you gotta practice. The top players in the game who are great at pitching and hitting have horrendous era’s. I call it pitch and pray because you know your on bored time before a pitch hangs or misses its spot.

You kidding right? Sliders hang or are forced over the plate more than any other pitch..

Seems like every single RS game, if you start your pitch right on the black, and hit your spots on the pitching interface, it’s a ball 75% of the time.
If your opponent has a good eye, they can just sit and wait until the game forces a pitch down the middle. So goddamn frustrating.
I love when my 99 ovr, good control pitchers have their pitches just simply miss even though you have good input.
I know I’m beating a dead horse but if SDS doesn’t show changes to pitching when they start advertising 21, I will highly consider not buying the game.
It’s getting to the point where the frustration that this game induces day after day is just not worth my time anymore.
What do you all try to do to overcome the god awful pitching this year?
I can almost guarantee you that pitching will be the same, no changes for MLB21, at least, that seems to be the trend.
Let's all hope I'm wrong.
-
I don’t think there is a way to “overcome” it. It’s clearly designed to play this way, so I think it is really just a question of accepting that we don’t really have complete control over the outcomes from our input.
Personally, there is no way I’m buying the game next year. There are too many egregious problems that continue because there is no competition for this game in the market right now.
