Gauging season to season improvement.

This is only my second full year playing DD. Just curious on feedback as to what to look for to assess how you’ve improved, or not improved year to year.
Obviously 18 and 19 were different games so not sure how to approach. Looking at basic RS stats, I went from 99-84 record-wise in 18 to 102-42 in 19 and my RS batting average went up from .198 to .263. ERA from 3.11 in 18 to 2.42 in 19.
Best season finish was around 710 in 18 to 781 in 19 with the caveat that I don’t think I ever got in more than 20 games in an individual season in 19.
What do you look for to track progress? Also, fully acknowledging that I suck, how would you rate my year to year improvement?

I'd say your record is pretty good but I'm confused how you only made it to 781 with a 102-42 record. That makes it seem as if you shy away from the competition in the higher tiers, while that is where you want to play to really improve your game.
Your ERA is great and your batting average has room for improvement still. Overall you seem to have made significant progress in just a single year. All I can say is keep playing and keep challenging yourself especially in those higher tiers from 800-1000.

Record looks great and made some serious improvements in ERA and Average from 18 to 19 but like @raesONE said, with the record you have, it seems like you stopped playing when you would of started facing other good players.

The record is a little hard to tell when you stop around where the competition starts actually being good, your era is really good but once again you weren't really playing the best guys and your batting average might have dipped on HOF, it's good improvement but next year you should try to go further
Personally I look at my ops because as the year has gone on my average slightly dipped but my slugging has skyrocketed, I was hoping for 1.000 lifetime but I can live with .970, my goal for next year is to go 200-50 to start the year, but realistically I'll be going for more like 200-75

All good feedback, thanks. Next year I may try and play more RS, time permitting. I tend to gravitate toward the events for online play as the shorter games work better for me. Shame there isn’t a way to see your cumulative event stats.

It will be interesting to see how this year goes for you. I personally had a very hard time measuring progress in 19. I felt like I was hitting much better, but then randomness of pitching and hitting outcomes seemed greater.
I would urge you to do your best to climb out of AS, where the game has played more inconsistently.

It's really hard to tell sometimes with the RNG how much is an improvement and how much is luck. I know I've improved with my eye, I don't swing at balls much anymore and towards the end, I was walking double the amount of times I have been striking out,
So that shows some improvement, but even then it's hard to tell because it's so hard to strikeout in 19. I know I've improved, but I look forward to 20 and starting with a fresh record to see how good I can play.
I think the biggest test is Legend gameplay, I don't think All-star (At least as far as 19 goes) is a good statistic to compare. I can hold my own on legend, but I'm not anywhere close to the top guys.
