Another monitor post

I’m doing research on monitors and need some help on what exactly I’m looking at. I understand respond time but have no idea what aspect ratios and resolutions are in terms of how they affect game play.
I’m currently playing on a Magnavox model 46me313v/f7 TV from 2014. I’m assuming any monitor would be a huge upgrade but don’t want to over pay for features that don’t matter.

The wise decision would be to hold off until the PS5 drops and then upgrade your monitor at the same time. If you don't plan on upgrading to the PS4, I would suggest BenQ Zowie RL2455 or RL2755 (24 vs 27 inch) or an ASUS VG series.

Could the ps5 need a significantly different monitor? It’s a good point. I haven’t planned on buying the ps5 at launch, but unless the virus somehow goes away before then, , I just might. Not a whole lot else to do other than work and play video games.

I recently got a monitor after being on the fence about getting one for a long time. I was hesitant since it's such a smaller screen size and I was so used to playing on a 60" TV. I got an Asus VG278Q and WOW, what a difference it makes. On my old TV I was a terrible hitter and the monitor definitely helps you to be able to react to pitchers much quicker. It makes a huge difference when it comes to hitting. The monitor I got has a 1ms response time and 144hz. My understanding is that it will be able to handle the PS5 except it isn't a 4k monitor which the PS5 will be capable of. I don't know much about this stuff but I was told by a couple of friends of mine that playing online in 4k could cause some issues with frame rates slowing down or something. I can't remember exactly but I had a few people tell me that 4k isn't necessarily the best for online play so I just went ahead and bought the monitor now.

Yes, the monitors I just mentioned are excellent but run at 60hz which is what the PS4 Pro runs at max. The PS5 will without a doubt be able to handle way more, but we haven't seen any specs yet. So it's better to wait and see what those specs will be and then make a choice of monitor to benefit fully.

I don’t get it, I have a home theater set up and an 85” TV, is there really that much of a substantial difference to sacrifice the comfort and aesthetics of a nice home system?
Just honestly inquiring the difference that’s all -
The “response time” and “input lag” are relative to the resolution. For instance, 1080p or 4K, two different resolution, when you look up a TV it will have a different response time and input lag for each resolution. So you might get really fast (or non existent input lag) on 1080 that isn’t all that fast on 4K WHICH IS PERFECT for this game because you can save a bunch on money and the game itself even has a “faster” setting for 1080p in the menu (pspro only)
Some TVs and monitors cost thousand, because they are incredibly fast on all settings, even settings a PS4 can’t handle only a computer would. 60 hertz is the max a PS4 can handle, so specifically look up
Input lag and response time at:
1080p @ 60 hertz
4K @ 60 hertzRtings.com makes it incredibly easy to look up once you get familiar with the website.
I recently bought a Samsung TV for about 600$ that is incredibly fast on BOTH 1080p and 4K, and just as fast as my old monitor. You don’t need a monitor anymore, but it’s about 200$ vs 600$ for a quality monitor vs TV so it’s still cheaper. I could never go back now that I have 10ms on a 50 inch TV.

I’m consistently inconsistent online. I have a 55’ TCL 6 Series (2017 model) tv and I feel I should be doing a bit better hitting wise. Been considering getting monitor. I turn HDR off in this game as well.
The 14.2 ms input lag probably isn’t doing me any favors either.
