Yes, Future Stars are bad. We all know this.
But there’s no reason for Jacoby Ellsbury to have a Prime 96 card. Just give us his 2011 card and that’s it. That’s all his Prime was.
But let’s make Ben Zobrist’s prime card a 94. Makes no sense whatsoever. I’d understand if this Ellsbury card was an Awards series based on 2011, but it isn’t.
I don't fully understand the "prime" cards this year. Obviously sig series is their overall career. Awards is a specific year they won a major award. Prime means the prime of their career? Is that similar to a sig series? Can someone have a 95 prime then a 99 sig series? Wouldn't prime mean the best they were in their career?
It's supposed to be a 3-5 year stretch when they were at their best..
Sig is more cherry picked off their entire career -

I was under the impression that Signature Series was based on a player’s entire career, Prime was based on a player’s best consecutive years, and obviously Awards is one of their best seasons boosted.
Apparently my idea of “prime” is not the same as SDS’s idea of “prime”
Or, they’re just making [censored] up.

No.. Sig is if say you were fast when you were a rookie but not a good power hitter. And at the end of your career you were slow but hit dongs... Sig would give you the speed and dongs...
Prime isnt supposed to be pumped up like that, but rather just what you were at your peak

So sig is like a Frankenstein card. The best of every category no matter the year all put into one. Got it. Prime is based off real stats in certain years.

1 elite year. 2011 - 9.5 fWAR (that's elite!)
3 good/okay years. 2008/2013/2014 - 4.2, 4.6, 3.6.Everything else is literally nothing. Useless. Either hurt or almost replacement level

His three best seasons were:
2011: 9.5 fWAR
2013: 4.6 fWAR
2008: 4.2 fWARHe never even touched 4 fWAR at any other point in his career, and basically the only reason he even had 4 in 2013 and 2008 was because of his very good base running.
Talk about maximum disrespect towards Zobrist though. First Kemp, then Ellsbury of all people are given higher cards then him.

If they actually did it for his prime years he should be around 90 ovr at best. 1 good season and he gets a 96. With it being his prime card I hope they drop his power some. Dude hit double digit hr twice in his career(32 in '11 & 16 in '14). We already have to pitch Adalberto like hes Raul Sr.

You’d see zero complaints from me if they just made it an awards card based on 2011 alone. That season was incredible, so I’d understand if they boosted just it. But to say he had any kind of a prime that was worthy of being a 96 is just asinine.

Prime is for guys who don’t deserve Signature cards though right?

Nope. It's more Sig is for guys who had multiple prime periods. Or periods which they excelled differently

It was in the form of a question because I wasn't sure about them this year. But yeah I guess old Reg deserves both.
-
I hate to complain on here. But I’ve completely lost interest in the game.
Getting Mantle early has nothing to do with it. I had Mays early last year and loved it until September.
Can’t see myself buying the Show next year. Which sucks. Because I love baseball.
Everything about this year is a step backwards.
-
So if Prime is for one good year are we going to get a Prime Matt Harvey?
-
At this point, I think it’s safe to say they are just making this stuff up.

Or just Lofton with more power.
... and much less DUR
Have you seen Stantons durability quirk?
