Any idea how to get a more even opponent when playing online? I’m a level 40 silver with a sub .500 online record (I’ll admit, I’m a casual player, rather than someone who is really good) but seem to always come up against opponents with .800+ records who are stupidly good - a few recent ones have been a level 93 gold, 23 diamond and 14 prestige!!!

Unsurprisingly, I lost convincingly, with most of my pitches (even those thrown deliberately miles outside the zone) getting smashed around the yard.

Any ideas how to make it more likely to find a realistic match? Boring for me getting destroyed and boring for the other guy who must feel like he’s facing batting practice.

    Thank you!

It’s usually going to match you with guys within 100 above or below what your rank is. So if you’re 750 you’re gonna see a guy that’s between 650 and 850 usually. As far as your level goes that has nothing to do with determining skill. A level 90 prestige might have a good team and be terrible. I look for either a World Series banner or 12-0 BR run banner to tell if someone might be any good.

Silver/Gold/Diamond level does not equal skill level. In ranked you are matched up by level in regard to record depending on how far you let the bar fill. BR is and events are based on record in a particular run, so you could match up with the best players in the game or the worst when you are first starting out.

Hold left on the d pad while matchmaking. It will take a little longer but it keeps you matched up with someone close to your ranking. Started doing it a couple weeks ago after reading about it and it made a huge difference and resulted in even matchups and fun games, in my experience anyways.

Can anybody please confirm this is true? If so I’d love to be using this

I agree, This is definitely a problem in RS. I’m just an average player (130-105) but I’m constantly getting matched up with guys with those top 50 rings in their banner, 12-0 BR banners & just flat out ridiculous records like 200-35, ect. And predictably I get massacred. I just want to play NORMAL & SIMILAR opponents to have good games.

Yes its true. Just keeping holding the d pad left and wait for it to match you up. It will match you up with someone alot closer to your level.

I wouldn’t consider 25 games over to be an average player

Below average, Above average...whatever....I just know I’m not elite so I shouldn’t be getting matched up with elites is all I’m saying.

Even though xp does not relate to skill level, it probably means the person who is a diamond has better cards than a silver.
Not everybody who plays this game grinds, flips, or puts money into the game.

Does rating mod matter this year? I remember SDS saying they were taking it out of matchmaking last year.

If this game goes cross platform online next year, they should probably consider matchmaking based on rating and xp. Either that or make rating mod matter more heavily.

The time you play can also greatly affect match making. Playing during the day on weekends or after school hours way more likely to play a kid. Playing 9pm-11pm way more likely to play a grown man that cant play during the day, 11pm-2am way more likely to play someone who has put a lot more time into the game than you.

This 100%! My favorite time to play is like 4-6pm on a Tuesday for this reason

thank you to all who responded. I tried holding left on the dpad when finding an opponent and whilst I'm still winning at the same rate, the games are WAY more competitive - so much more fun, even if I lose!

    THANK YOU - happy gaming

I already do this and still I can't find a good match. I suspect it's becuase I'm pretty far down the skill ladder and there just aren't good matches to be had. I'm [censored], sitting down at 397, and my rating won't go down even after a bunch of losses. If I occasionally get a win, it pops up well over 400 and that's about the last thing I want. So I don't play much but I really want to.

My only hope is I'll learn to hit, which is the biggest issue I have. I can hit on All-star vs CPU decently. At least enough to win most of those games. But in RS it's like a different world. Better pitchers, less predictability, and it just seems faster. I'm always late on fastballs and early on everything else.
