I’m curious — has anyone gone out of their way to prestige a card? By that, I mean have you left a card in your lineup just to unlock the tomato diamond when you might have better cards in your inventory? If so, was it worth the effort?

I imagine a lot of us will prestige some elite cards — like Mantle or Biggio, for example — just by “accident,” so to speak. The cards are so good that they’re staying in our lineups regardless of stat grinds.

When I compare the prestige attributes to the prime attributes for most of these cards .... it’s really not that huge of an improvement imo. And it definitely takes a lot of work to get to the next level.

So! If SDS does this again next year, do you think a) everything is fine and should stay the same, b) the prestige attribute upgrades are fine but the stat grind shouldn’t be so huge, or c) the stat grind is fine but there should be bigger attribute upgrades to go with it?

I really wish we could include offline stats in the grind, but I don’t think that will happen.

I have a feeling we will need at least a few prestige diamonds to unlock whatever the big collection will be this year (maybe honus again?), so i should probably work on these sooner rather than later. But I’m just not sure the “juice is worth the squeeze,” as one of my toolbag work supervisors likes to say.

I really doubt they lock the big collection Honus type card behind that much online grinding.

Wouldn’t make much sense from a business perspective.

I’m having success with the Prestige Oswalt. His breaking/off speed pitches seem to be generating more swings and missed than his regular card. His fastball is about the same speed, but his breaking stuff seems much better imo

I hope you’re right. I will probably get a few prestige diamonds this year, but not very many I’m sure. If I have to play 50 RS games with Todd Helton or Joe Carter just to get Honus then it’s definitely not worth the effort.

They want people to pay for the collection, but most people won’t even bother if Prestige diamonds are required.

Sure, you can get 5 for free in the Prestige XP reward path, but most people probably won’t get that far ever.

I’m going to make a team with all the prestige cards I have at the moment and when I decide to play online again I’ll grind with them. At this point I’m just going to do showdowns and moments to get cards.

Good point. Now if you could use exchanges to upgrade to prestige then it might be a different story.

I’ve pretty dramatically restructured a lot of how i play and collect this year so I won’t be behind when the collection reward is revealed. I’m doing all the player programs and events and I’m not selling much of anything. I pulled the Headliner Molitor a few days ago and I would much rather have the 40K stubs but I’ll keep it because I’m sure it’ll help toward the Honus collection.

Now, if there is no major collection this year..... then I’ll be pretty ticked.

I think Oswalt is worth the upgrade, although he is the only one I have. Chippers Prestige gets him up a tier at fielding at 3rd so that might be worth it. Other than that, Mantle, Biggio, and Sheffield might be worth it but at least one of those three will stay in lineups for almost anyone all year so that might come naturally

Good point on Chipper moving up a tier. That actually makes it more worthwhile

The biggest thing for me is making sure to keep one of every 150 star gold players. They got quite pricey last year.

I have Prestige Oswalt and Sheffield and close to Mantle. 2 of those 3 won't leave my lineup. Is it worth it for 3 extra stats in each category... probably not for 99's already. I didn't see much difference in Oswalt and I feel like people saw his card so much already I don't even use rim

I mean it’s not even the +3 really, I’m going to prestige Chipper because I’d keep him in my line up anyway, so I may as well take the boost. I also did Oswalt for the same reason. I play prestige Didi over Sandburg and Larkin at second or short but I like the lefty balance and he has a filthy no doubt bat flip. I suppose it’s worth it if you plan to use the card long term anyway.

I have prestige Feller and Oswalt but I’m only trying to get Helton. 500 abs and it’s still not done. I’m they have made them slightly easier now but it’s still a massive commitment on a batter. Pitcher is easy

This. I will probably have HanRam (Defensive shield boost with prestige) and Didi (same) in my lineup somehow someway for a while as I don’t have many better options and I play well with their cards. I’m close to Chipper (I know I’m behind lol) and I didn’t have the chance to play with the SS last year and I love the switch hitter aspect. But I’m also intrigued by the Prime Roberts as I have FotF Moncada manning 2B ATM. I will def try out some of the FS cards but as I’m a while off of the Gorman, NJones and Chisholm crew (I have Brujan in CF) I’ll be doing what I can to prestige the cards I like.

What do you think about the RS golds and their prices? Will they go up, or do you think SDS will eventually bring those guys back later in the year?
