This was the top of the fifth inning . . . you had five more innings at bat to score one run to tie and two to win. Come on, a one run lead is definitely not insurmountable, so why blame your loss on one play? Sure, it's frustrating, but it sounds like you let that get to you the rest of the game. And yeah, why throw something way outside to Sheffield? Perhaps you were afraid he was actually going to get a hit with two strikes to take the lead.
Also, maybe examine your CAP's defense at catcher. When I put guys like Carlos Santana or Gary Sanchez behind the plate, it just doesn't compare to Posey's superb blocking abilities for stuff in the dirt. Some people really sleep on defense ratings on certain positions like C or 1B that don't get the ball hit to them in high frequency.
Maybe switch to pure analog instead of meter pitching for increased levels of user input. It's worth trying at least if you haven't already . . .
About spending money on the game, that probably makes you invest more time and effort than you otherwise would. I know a lot of people do it, but spending $1,500 to get Mantle, Sheffield, and Biggio doesn't automatically increase your chances of winning in this game. Plenty of free cards out there who rake (i.e. POTMs, future stars, TAs). So maybe you wouldn't feel this let down if all you did was spend $60 upfront, but no one's stopping you from buying stubs in-game. Try giving it a rest for a day or two and think it over, that might help you see the bigger picture of issues like this a bit more.
But seriously, this forum has turned into a cesspool for players complaining about in-game issues and frustrations. One might wonder if that's the primary focus of users discussing MLB the Show 20 on this forum. It's a simulation video game; no one expects it to be a perfect experience, much less to win every game. If you don't like it, no one's forcing you to keep playing. Maybe the card drops throughout the year, including collections and new pack releases have sucked you in to spending tons of cash every year. Hey, it's making a profit for SDS. There's plenty of other things to do now and in the next few months, find something you actually enjoy I guess.
So just accept the problems in the game instead of sharing them in hopes of them getting addressed for a better gaming experience?
No . . . there's always going to be issues with gameplay, it's not a perfect system. All you complainers should find something else to do instead of spending all day playing a game you don't actually enjoy playing. Isn't that a bit counterintuitive?
Imagine if nobody complained about souvenirs in 18 or the slow pitch speeds or the terrible hitting or how you could immediately return to first on a steal attempt safely. Imagine if nobody complained about how bad the fielding was (including real MLB players) earlier this year. Bunt cheese from a few years ago, slow menu speeds, online requirements for Griffey etc etc. Think about how much has been improved in part to the complainers. If we all just downplayed everything this game could be a lot worse. Just something to keep in mind when you want to talk about complainers.

There is nothing to defend...he threw a ball in the dirt and a runner scored.
Did you not see the pitcher put down a tag with the runners arm still in the batters box?
He missed the tag, happens in real life all the time. What is the pitchers defensive stats? Was there lag? Is there latency issues?
You guys and your “It happens in real life” excuse. It’s no wonder why this game plays like this ever year. Why would SDS make anything better when they have the fanboys patrolling these sites and downplaying any issue a player brings up?

You threw (intentionally) a ball in the dirt , way outside. And it went to the backstop as is likely the case,( pulling that far down and away) and you let a run score.The runner scoring was your fault, how it happened is irrelevant. Maybe he didn’t get the tag down? You can’t see that angle, and I get that part would be frustrating.
However think about the 1bman standing in foul territory catching the ball animation. It’s a visual flaw, my point is the game, inside , below the visual, decided you let that run score because of the pitch you chose to throw.
Always the players fault in a game that clearly has no issues.

I like how they implemented a Power Up program, it adds something new. It has a good foundation to build on with multiple ways to improve.
Similar to training in MUT each card has a Prestige currency amount (lower ovr card = less currency) and then you could quicksell those cards for that currency to put towards powering up a Prestige card?
Go ahead and keep the stat grinds, with the addition of an offline option, but have the prestige currency as an alternate path.

Offline is too easy to manipulate , I like it the way it is and I don’t think everyone should be able to be a 99. This is something I think they got right
Yeah, a lot of players play offline though that would like to get those cards. Locking them behind the online wall is kinda shady. All program cards should have multiple paths to acquire, it’s one of the reasons why I started playing DD, the freedom of choice was nice. They took a step back from that this year with this prestige program.
You can still get the card , you just can’t prestige it. DD is an online mode that is designed around a foundation of head to head online play. That’s why it takes online play to take it to the next level, this is one area I’m extremely pleased with
If DD is solely intended to be an online mode, they need to get rid of any and all offline aspects. I don’t see that happening so include the offline players in the Prestige Power Up program.

There are so many ways to get stubs now its unnecessary.
Yeah, they don’t need to reward stubs in MyCareer, instead they could have great cards you could unlock with the top card being the Master once you complete all stats.

Each year has a top tier collection card.
Why not have that card acquired through a “Master” program like MUT does with MUT Master?
Not only would this add a stat grind for players who enjoy those, getting that card would show your dedication to the game rather than just buying it through collections.
Why was MyCareer even removed in the first place? Same with Ticket Counter. It was fun to get Tickets and save them in anticipation of new cards being released.
I feel like RS rewards should be just stubs, in decent amounts, and all cards in the game are acquired through promos/programs.
Also, make all cards sellable. Earning cards is fine and all but most of the time I’d rather just be able to sell it and put those stubs towards a player of my choosing.
