Ranked Seasons may be playable now - no more All Star hell @ComebackLogic
Haha, for everyone who dumped money into- sorry, continued to show SDS unwavering support despite previous disappointments, I genuinely hope so! I’m happy to sit this year out and see what the vibe in the community is come late summer, when everyone has the benefit of hindsight, to let me know if I made the correct decision.
That’s a good idea. The disappointments are strong with this one (re the community response to TS21). DD integration with RTTS and removal of Sounds of the Show are copping it big time, both here and on OS. Although I know that you were strictly a RS player so these probably don’t matter to you
I’m not surprised. I hated last years game, really hated it. The bottom line, for me, was the online gameplay overall. Last year, it didn’t matter if you were playing RS, Events or BR. The whole H2H game was just awful, there was no reward for attempting to use actual baseball strategy in online play, nor was there any detriment to swinging at absolutely every pitch or simply spamming pitches as fast as possible without paying attention so it was your turn to hit home runs again ASAP. Scores were excessively high, it was far too offensive overall, with no respect for solid pitching or defensive strategy and nonsensical batted ball outcomes that often defied the laws of physics. The amount of runs per game and in particular, home runs, was just ridiculous across all modes and if your rotations ace was sporting an ERA below 5.00 in H2H, you were pitching extremely well.
That alone would have been enough to make me quit the franchise, but it was supplemented by some equally stupid content, with so many high diamonds and 99 overall cards that didn’t need to be in the game, the legitimate legends and the occasional elite versions of current day stars we usually enjoy using felt generic and unremarkable. Zero sense of improving your DD squad or achieving anything special by obtaining a card like 99 Willie Mays or Ken Griffey Junior, because he’s equally as good as some random topps now card for a guy who had a 4 hit game one afternoon in April that you can have for 5k or grinding a few moments.
With nothing to work towards except more useless 99 overalls that you have no inclination to obtain because they are no different to the 135 cards you already have that are 99 overall, there’s no incentive to endure the horrific gameplay, which would usually involve, to the best of recollection, sitting there, pitching as well as you possibly could only for the game to serve up a meatball that would inevitably sail out for (yet another) home run. If it wasn’t for ‘18, it would be the worst baseball game I’ve played in many a year.
On that basis, I wasn’t even willing to give this year a chance, I actually sold my PS4 at the end of last year and don’t even own a video game console at the time of writing. As the only game I played was MLB the Show, I simply had no use for it any more and gave up gaming entirely. Now that’s what you call a game, lol. ‘20 was so good, I quit my 30+ year gaming career entirely on the back of it!! Maybe I’ve just grown out of gaming, but ‘20 felt very childish, like it was built for chubby 11 year olds who squeal with delight after every home run, while stuffing candy into their snot encrusted mouths.
I picked up an Xbox-S (only play on a non 4k monitor and I'm cheap) and it's free on Gamepass, otherwise I had planned to sit this year out as well
I didn’t know that. Interesting. Now I’ve always been a PlayStation guy, the last XBox I owned was the 360 when GTA IV was the must have title and modders were driving flowerpots and dinosaur skeletons around the airport, booting people offline with their modded consoles, but this is an interesting thought. If I buy the console and game pass, I wouldn’t really care if the game sucked like always, because it would be the equivalent of receiving a terrible PS Plus game for nothing.
Ultimate Game Pass is great for me (casual gamer) when you first sign up you can get the price down to 6 bucks a month for 2 years by switching over old currencies. Everything on EA Play is free, 2k21, Outriders...etc. Unless the selection goes in the toilet I doubt I'll be buying any games in the foreseeable future
