    Thank you sds!

The less a player is rewarded for having skill, the more likely they are to think they need better players to get gud. Add in a stub sale or two. Profit.

When something is that simple, it's usually your answer.

@Laaaaylay said in SDS PATCH SAYS ONE THING:

Some of you never took a business class in your life and it shows... SDS is in the business of making money. You think the devs are working for free and donating their salary? Every patch is always going to address what protects the money most because without money you have no product. If you’re unhappy with mlb the show over the money aspect you’re not gonna be happy with video games in general so you should take up a new hobby like bird watching. But buying equipment to bird watch might cost you money too so you might not like that. Madden, 2K, The show and pretty much every game with an online aspect are in the monetization phase of gaming. If you want the best product you need to pay for it. It’s sad but true. We’re no longer in the days of just buying a base game at drop gets you a lot of content. Nothing is free. Whether you spend your time or your money. So do yourself a favor. Take a deep breath and just play the game or don’t. Tedious posts about not coming back next year aren’t changing anyone’s mind lol there’s about a million on this site at this point. Whether you stop playing or 100 dudes do that post they will. There’s still 100 more that will play and buy stubs in your place and keep the game afloat.

Except the economy is tanking this year. The little disposable income left is going to go to the games that actually work in the future. The issue here is not the microtransaction model itself nor the content SDS is dropping. SDS doesn't seem to really care about quality control and goodwill which is the long game. How SDS still has the MLB and MLBPA licenses astonishes me when it comes to quality control. I'd love to see what that deal and the resulting cashflow looks like.

I'm not going to say I'll never give SDS any money ever again, but it's not looking good. Between the economy and this year's gameplay, it's probably not going to happen any time soon. I haven't played since '16, so I already know what taking a long break feels like (and it's better than playing '20 lol). I gave it a whirl this year because of all the good reviews of '19 and the free time I knew I would have on my hands when it dropped. Being a realist, I figured the servers would crash because everyone was staying home and playing. Ironically, that's been the least of my issues with this year's game.

I don't even really care about the XP "exploits" because I still have more diamond cards than i ever have because of all the free time I have now without them, period. I didn't even know how to do the steal cheese, and I don't count HDR as an exploit because it's simply smart to use your time efficiently, and if it's your goal to get so much XP in so much time and that's the amount of XP per HR the game dropped with, then have at it! I finished an MTO season before the points were doubled and thought the doubling of TA points with the patch was SDS responding to consumer feedback and throwing out a goodwill bone. Even if I was naive, taking away something that was given to the consumer, even inadvertently, is not going to earn you goodwill points. Call them SDS Affinity points. I can give SDS less rewards, too lol.

Here's my real issue with the new patch. I think even without any "exploits," people are simply grinding for XP more than usual because the current situation has a lot of people tightening their wallets and at home more (with no sports to watch), and it feels like SDS is just plain not liking that. They already have our money from the purchase of the game, so it just comes off as slimy that they're making this blatant money grab on the microtransactions now without fixing the core gameplay. THAT is why I will probably not spend another dime on this game.

  • Showdown = MLB The Show Gold Glove Edition
  • R RizzoCox_PSN

I find Showdown incredibly grueling for almost no payoff. Sure, there's rewards, but I spent about 1.5 hours doing each one, and my rewards are just profits over the stubs I paid to do the thing in the first place, if I even break even at all. I'd rather play MTO or just do some moments and exchanges to get good players to be honest. If it didn't cost stubs, I'd be more inclined to live with the insane difficulty.

Why not have a tiered Showdown? I can enter for free to get the Gold Glove edition, but if I want to part with 500 or 1000 stubs for Silver or Bronze editions, I'm in! Or, I pay 500 stubs per mini boss so I can skip them and get a couple of runs each into the final Showdown?

excuse a million dollar company worrying about making money....imagine that concept

Agreed. That's why I'm baffled at what a wreck this game actually is. Basic gameplay is crummy. Patches make things worse than they were before. The bigger problem is that this latest microtransaction cash grab is blatantly obvious in a time when people are dying and the economy is tanking. Plenty of million dollar companies are adjusting accordingly to keep their customers, e.g., AllState. Unless SDS does a complete about face, they will likely never see a dime from me again.

  • Ideas for Showdown
  • R RizzoCox_PSN

If 20 TA points for 1.5 hours is just fine, then wouldn't it be better if it takes less time to get the same reward? Score 16 runs, get 5 vouchers. If you're starting at zero runs because the moments are gone, wouldn't this make it hard enough to still justify the same rewards? I just don't think a game mode that is basically rewarding you for patience should be this long.

Better yet, why not have a diamond player as a reward? Or, have one or two vouchers as a reward for each run scored (maybe towards the end after silver player packs and gold player packs for the first 1-10 runs scored), so if I only score 15 runs, I at least leave with a couple vouchers even if I left a lot more of them on the table.

If you don't win the showdown, why slog through all the moments and mini bosses again? I'd rather just start another final showdown. I've had several of those walk off moments go into extra innings, and then there's my favorite moments where you have already failed because of some pitching requirement but have to bat the bottom of the last inning. No thanks.

The final showdown is what gets me amped to play. Playing through the moments makes me cringe, especially if I need something new after playing moments for POTM or Evolution, etc. I'd rather just fire up a final showdown, earn rewards as I score, rinse, and repeat. I would LOVE to go head-to-head online. If each player gets a turn on offense and on defense, it would still take less time than this slog of a game mode.
