I am actually a fan of the swing camera and L1 controls as I play a Player Lock Short Stop. However I do wish that R2 was used to dive compared to R1 which is harder to reach when reacting to the ball. R2 is listed as "dive" in the controls manual but does not work for Player Lock.

This has been a gameplay issue for years. There are other threads noticing the same thing. So maybe next year they will focus on playing the infield basics.
This issue has existed in the game for years. The defense experience for infield players is just not there.
I hope MLB 20 would be different based on Chris Gils presentation. But non of that presentation translated over to manual controlled fielding.
What patch is everyone playing on? I’m still on the day one release.
As a long time Player Lock player. This was a welcomed change. I love the swing camera and I found out about the slide camera on accident and loved it too. I do wish on defense R2 was used for diving like it was before. So I feel the pain for those who are not used to the change.
I play Player Lock SS. And yes there is a lot left to be desired when playing infield positions on defense. And yes 10 years is a long time for very few fixes. I guess I’ll just say this SDS what can do to help?
If you set the fielding attempts to “Some” it should automatically shift your player. I play Player Lock in Franchise Mode and it works.
I set the fielding to “Some” I feel I get more organic hits to SS which is what I am looking for.
Other than the home run there are no High Five animations in the game since MLB 14. Are these animations possible to be add in a patch?
Example bases loaded Mitch Haniger comes up to the plate hits a double to knock in all 3 runners. Each one crossed home plate as if the other did not exist. Definitely took me out of the moment because this was a game I was loosing and took the lead.
There are several other situations that warrant a High Five reward interaction. Moving a runner over in a close game, Sacrifice Bunt or Pop Fly, Run Scored. But all of the love went to the Home Runs!
Just want to know if this will ever be possible!
Thanks!
Adam I see that you are replying on this thread. Would you happen to have any information on how to cover the bag specifically the 2nd base bag as a Player Lock or RTTS player? Specifically when a ball is hit to the outfield and the "CPU" second basemen runs out to cover the cut off throw.
You can move your player near the bag but the base gets over ran and the runner rounding first is allowed to slide in. Would be nice to receive the throw from the outfielder and have the tag put into place.
Thanks!

This definitely needs to be escalated to the higher programming authority. This problem has plagued the game for years and nothing has been done about it. I wonder why it has not been addressed considering road to the show is their most popular mode. Maybe try reporting it as a bug with video and screen shots?
