Wow... was reading through this and had something to say on the zone vs directional thing, but this got weird, quick. Not sure I want to offer encouragement...
I’ll say it anyway; you don’t need to play zone to win games. If you don’t like the idea of a PCI, don’t use it. You may have a lower ceiling, but if you don’t plan on making World Series, you can do just fine using directional.
I hate the PCI, and not because I’m old (but I am), but because I don’t feel like I’m playing a baseball game if I’m chasing things around with crosshairs. I don’t like the mechanics, and I don’t like the look of it. But you can work on timing, picking the right influence in the right situation, and you can still beat people more often than you lose without succumbing to the Missle Command style of baseball. Again, I’m not great, but I’m in the low 700s again and about 39 games over .500... you just need to find the right players (swings you can manage, and high vision stats are a must for directional) and you can put up runs.
It’s just a preference...
question, what type of swings do you use? contact, power? and do you play to your players strengths? like Gywnn, hes a contact hitter, do ya use contact swing? I use zone hitting, id like to use directional but i cant hit consistently
