Finally made WS...it ain’t over til it’s over

It only took me just over a year from the day I downloaded ‘20, but I finally broke through playing Friday night into the wee hours of Saturday morning(~3:15 AM EST). Here’s a little background on me and my MLBTS history:

As I’ve stated before this is my first year ever playing DD, but I’ve played the Show since they started making it. My only online experience before this was a few years back when they had online franchise I bought a 3 month PS subscription and joined a few online franchise leagues that all seemed to fizzle out within weeks without ever getting enough guys to play it through. It was fun, but very frustrating that guys would quit so it kind of pushed me back into my offline hole where I used to just play franchise vs CPU.

I started playing DD from the start this year after a friend’s suggestion and I got hooked immediately. I have played more hours of this game(the only video game I play anymore) than I care to admit and played on 3 different accounts through the year. First account I put money into to get Mantle. Then I decided I wanted to try it without money and started a second. Then when they dropped that free 5th inning boss pack around Christmas I challenged myself to work the market using that free pack to build a squad and within a few days of flipping 5th inning bosses I had millions of stubs and Mantle. That was this account and I played it the rest of the year.

Between all those accounts I’ve probably prestiged close to 140+ players. I went Flawless 3 times in BR and a 4th one I lost the game 12 in extras. Yet I hadn’t gotten past the 850’s in Ranked and often just got frustrated and gave up after a losing streak, often waiting til too late in the season to make a push.

I’ve been playing all year on the original PS4 with a TV that is probably ~10 years old. 10 days ago I bought a new 55” LG CX series TV. Using this on game mode has made a huge difference already. I know it’s late in the year and competition isn’t the same, but my Ranked record since getting the TV is 13-3. 1 Loss was a disconnect loss in the 2nd inning right when I hit a HR to go up 3-1. One was an extra inning 1 run loss to a 940 Ranked player(where I swear he got lucky) and the other game was a game where I just couldn’t touch Hershiser and lost 2-0. I out-hit my opponent in every game since I got the TV except for one where we both had 11 hits. I am still nowhere near an elite .400+ hitter, but this has given me a ton of confidence going into ‘21 knowing I have experience and better tools to compete with(also just got my PS5).

I doubt too many people are going to read that whole thing, but for anyone who struggled to get to WS realize there is hope. Also, if you’re on the fence about upgrading to a new TV or monitor, it 100% could be the difference between WS or not. Can’t wait til Friday!!!

    RE: The Roman Numerals theory

What do the Roman numerals stand for?

    1,2,3,4,5

That’s the kind of combination an idiot would have on his luggage.

POTM Mondesi, batting left-handed, was thrown out a first from RF, so even closer to first.

Yea the Tatis one baffled me, but Mondesi is def worse. It just can’t happen.

    Toxic player

Just played one of those toxic losers. Bunting with players like Bellinger which is laughable, holding R2, replay first HR, yada yada.

I settle down after getting annoyed the first few innings and just started crushing him. He was total trash and only hit 2 HR both on pitches that just got grooved down the middle when they shouldn’t have. I’m up 13-3 in the bottom 8th with 2 outs.

He lets his 3 minute+ timer go all the way down to zero. The screen pops up to forfeit their game, but the words on the screen are totally scrambled like it was two messages on top of each other. I hit Square and of course he magically tricked me into a Friendly. Then he messages me bragging about it.

How can I report this guy. Waste 45-60 mins of
Peoples time to exploit something in the game that SDS NEEDS to address and make impossible to happen. Very annoying.

Hey @raesone.. I remember you making a post regarding the above-mentioned topic some time ago. Just curious if you are still experiencing same issues from time to time or if it's been resolved for you. If it's been resolved, do you know how it got resolved or did it just stop happening on its own?

Reason I ask, is because it's been happening to me quite frequently to the point where I feel lucky if it doesn't. But now it's just ridiculous as it just happened to me on a routine ground ball to my shortstop, where my shortstop dove on its own when he didn't have to., subsequently, costing me the game.

Appreciate any feedback from yourself or even others who may have experienced the same thing or have any suggestions. Thanks.

I got a new controller and I haven't experienced it since. I think my previous controller was faulty despite it being relatively new so I replaced it under warranty and the problem seems to be solved. Maybe not the answer you were looking for but hope it helps either way.

I had the same problem as well and replaced my controller (which was only a couple of months old). Have not had an issue since.

I play this game a lot. In fact it’s the only video game I play these days. I enjoy Grinding and grinding away because I like all the challenges and building up my team, prestige game cards, etc. but every now and then I get bored and want a different challenge. With the way stubs are in the game the last couple of months I decided to try something when they dropped that free bundle with the 5th inning choice pack the other night.

I started a brand new account. I got the free bundle pack from the shop. I took Mo and pulled the rare(cheaper) round in the Finest pack and took Acuña. I sold them both and started flipping 5th round bosses like a BOSS. In the past 72 hours, the only gameplay I did on the account was 2 Team affinity conquest maps(BAL/BOS), 1 RIB Showdown(took Baez)and some Moments. I am currently sitting at 2.2 million stubs, I exchanged my way up to the Finest player in TA4 for BAL, BOS and WAS. I have already put together a very competitive squad(not as fully loaded as my main account obviously, but not bad).

My goal right now is to get the team loaded up with players from the East and then attack the East event when it starts up. Pretty nuts how easily you can get stubs right now. I can keep doing buy orders and complete the Mantle collection already.

Can’t wait to be the Bronze 35 player with a full goon squad messing people up in the event lol. 😂

So yea anyone hurting for stubs go flip some MO, Larry and Papi’s and you should be good.

I made 2 mil. Flipping them. But it's seems slow now

It def slowed a lot from the initial release of the pack, but I also haven’t been trying to flip as much and started focusing more on grinding/team build.

Yes, you have to complete the collection to get him.

Regardless of what the jumbled words say, the icon for the square isn't a trapezoid or infinity symbol.

What exactly are you trying to say? If someone walks away or just decides to Let their timer expire instead of quitting, a message pops up and says something along the lines of accepting the forfeit press “SQUARE” or you can choose to wait longer.

What does this have to do with trapezoid or infinity symbol?

I was trolling the OP that claimed they fell for it because they couldn't make out the jumbled words. This entire discussion is meh.

Yea well I am the OP. First year playing DD and I’ve played roughly a million hours of it this year and this is the first time I’ve ever had this happen and I was rightfully annoyed and ranting about it. EVERY single other time someone has let the counter go to 0:00 and I clicked SQUARE they were forfeited until this nonsense last night.

I’m sorry if my topic doesn’t excite you. I feel like it’s something that should be discussed, should be addressed by SDS so losers can’t exploit it and maybe reading about it will help someone else from getting cheated out of a win.

Really? Because I’ve had about 40 people this year alone try to run the timer and throw a friendly to try and trick me and it’s worked zero times. This has been a thing for years.

It’s not an exploit - it’s a cheap way of catching you not paying attention.

Yes, like I said every single other player that allowed the timer to go down to 0:00, the prompt came up, I hit SQUARE and they were forfeited. I also wouldn’t say it’s a “not paying attention” thing when the words on the screen were all jumbled up like the game was glitching out. If it had clearly come up with the Friendly Quit message and I clicked it not paying attention than that would be on me, even though it still is a joke that losers do it and that the game utilizes the same button for both actions.

As far as the bunting goes, people can obviously choose to play this game however they want. Personally, bunting with power hitters who never bunt vs the shift in real life is lame as hell. 98% of the time if someone does this vs me it’s a very weak opponent who doesn’t hit well. It’s a rare time that a WS, Flawless or player with high batting averages use this tactic vs me because we all know how high the ratio of HR:Hits are in this game vs real life. I have these guys bunting vs me with 2 strikes and Mantle up, even without a shift....and the game rewards it waaaaay too often.

I Mean cmon man. Let’s swing away. Let the one who pitches and swings the best win and move on. Reading your opponent and exploiting their weaknesses is smart baseball... and exploiting the game’s weakness with the unrealistic bunting and this timer/quit nonsense is not good baseball.

Well I agree with you, but I still bunt sometimes against the shift if my opponent is refusing to make adjustments and I need to get something going, for the reasons I explained earlier. And I'm a WS, flawless and borderline top50 player. Other players I play against who fit that same description do it too sometimes. Not my preferred way of playing, but they should disable the auto shift and I would never even touch the triangle button in the first place. If you make manual adjustments to shift on someone - kudos to you. But this auto shift lazy stuff will make me bunt against it if I have to.

I understand your stance. But if you really think about it, ALL MLB teams utilize the shift often. So the more realistic way to play would be to have the Auto-Shift on and manually switch out when the situation dictates based on how your opponent is playing and the way you are pitching. Just my opinion.

On that point I disagree with you. I think shifting or not shifting is a skill or at the very least a "presence of mind" kind of thing. It attributes to a skill gap, as in being aware that the hitter at the plate is an extreme pull hitter so you might want to shift. The game doing this for you automatically decreases that skill gap. Therefore I don't feel bad one bit for bunting it the other way to get on base against someone who's too lazy to turn the shift off once I already tried to bunt against it earlier. Just take the shift off and I'll swing the bat. Easy peasy.

Agree to disagree I guess. If you think every MLB player is deciding for themselves who and when to shift for and their not being told through the coaches and analytics than you’re crazy. Pausing the game for each batter to put a shift on is more time consuming and annoying then the few times you’d need to remove it for someone who bunts with Big Papi.

People on these forums seem to be bothered more by the auto-shift then people actually being cheesy and disrespectful with the R2 stuff, the Forfeit/quit thing and other childish things. Sure I hate lining out to the second baseman in RF, but “That’s Baseball Susan”.

Well I only needed 1 more out for the mercy, hence the reason he did this. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it X to accept a Friendly?

I can’t remember now, I think it’s square.. but toxic players run their timer down until 1 sec and offer a FQ to trixj you into “forfeiting the game” so I let the message there for one or two seconds and press circle, then the message to forfeit comes up I either get the W or they back out and keep playing

But I watched the timer hit 0:00. Message pops up. Like I said it’s jumbled and looks like 2 messages written on top of each other. I see the words about forcing a forfeit so I hit square which is what does the forfeit. I’m almost positive it’s X to accept a Friendly.

The whole thing is it just sucks that there is even a way for someone to exploit this nonsense. SDS
