Miggy Collection - A (Mostly Positive) Review
-
This thread is to give SDS some credit for the Miggy collection (because noone on this board ever likes to give them credit). They were pretty fair (except for the Standout series, see below). Consider the following review:
-
The collection doesnt require Judge or Shohei
-
The collection doesn't require hardly any low-supply cards (Headliners, Chase cards, bullpen bash guys, etc.) That 90 Blake Treinen would be going for 150k right now if he were required.
-
Egg Hunt - They telegraphed clearly with flash sale and other releases that it would be needed. Clear as day, so everyone should've invested in higher-tier egg hunt guys (easy way to double your stubs).
-
St. Patty's- Trout was a reward for WC, it was pretty clear he'd be needed. Plus, there's a ton of Trouts in supply - this is why he dropped way down in price. Its not like Headliners or Chase.
-
Standout - this is my one gripe. Will there be more Standout cards put out anytime soon? Requiring people to get Anibal Sanchez is rough - that means you need all AL Central gatekeepers (which is just as bad as asking for Judge). If you skip Standout, you have to do All-Star and WBC collections - and the All Star collection has a ton of AL Central guys too (so you just kinda have to get Anibal).
Luckily, I recently packed JRam. But, without packing him or Witt, this is a rough request (unless there will be more Standout soon).

-
If you need Anibal, you need Judge right.
-
The only thing about this collection i didnt like, adding in the Trout to the St. Paddy's day collection. Not a huge deal, as he's only about 30k. Just a move out of greed tbh. Needing all 8 when no other collection is like that...just saying.
-
@rubicante23_PSN I hear you on the Egg Hunt and St. Patty’s collections, though they still dropped the ball on those by not having the collections in the game ahead of time so people could see the vouchers and claim them like everything else
-
@On_a_Power_Trip_PSN agreed - both egg hunt and St. Pattys were weird from the start. They are collections but not listed and no reward for the collections, etc. Plus, what is super unfair is only giving you like one or two packs for the collection - and those have only 25 percent chance of higher-level cards.
Its very annoying and boring to have all these cards that you're never gonna get any other way than buying them from marketplace.
-
@rubicante23_PSN My biggest gripe is that Jackie wasn’t a voucher. I think it was dirty as hell to split those collections. My only other gripe is that the other collections like egg hunt and St. Paddy’s Day didn’t already have a collection. Not only did it cause confusion, but we didn’t get anything else except the voucher. At least with the other minor collections we got a pack or player.
-
@GoozeFn_PSN I agree with this - splitting them would’ve been fine in future collections, but splitting them now was kind of a slap in the face given how much of a deal they made out of the content drop (speaking of which, did the ‘negro’ controversy cause the overlords to strike down the live content stream schedule?)
-
@On_a_Power_Trip_PSN IDK but that was much ado about nothing.
-
I really like that they added the 95 overall option to. Obviously most people won't be able to get the 99 right away, but that 95 is still a great card and should be able to make most lineups for people that don't have the cards to lock in the 99.
-
@Pergo_MLBTS It’s great for the people who aren’t close. It’s worthless for the people who got the 99 day 1. I just wish they gave another 95ish player collection in between them.
-
@GoozeFn_PSN This is a great example of why its often a no-win situation and people are going to complain no matter what. They do something for people that aren't close and there are complaints about it being worthless for the people that have it done. If you have the cards to get 99 Miggy on day 1, then another 95 along the way probably isn't going to move the needle all that much for that person. They basically already have just about every card in the game, they'll be fine.
-
I always feel like Negro Leagues cards aren't given enough shine. Other than John Don, most aren't very usable competitively. They dont even require you to get that many for the collection. Its like they assume people dont wanna bother with Storylines or getting these cards.
Jolt is the same way - they seem to assume noone cares about them. Like, most of us who care have had all the Jolts for...a while now. Why only 30 required? Why not more stuff in TA to get?
With TA and Negro Leagues - they just seem to think people dont wanna do it
-
@Pergo_MLBTS Except I just made a suggestion about how to make it good for both. This is what they did last year by the way, so no it’s not one or the other. They can appease both types of players. They are just awful at planning content.
-
@GoozeFn_PSN thought what they did was release sub-megacollections ie more players that had both a 95 and a 99 (which, yes, would’ve been cool)
-
@On_a_Power_Trip_PSN Yeah, I may be thinking of the sets and seasons model when we had multiple collection rewards. Either way, adding another collection in between 95 and 99 Miggy would have been great.
