Is there a secret ELO rating in this game?

Every time I play someone in this new event they are always either World Series players or guys that have the skillset of a World Series player. Is there some kind of secret rating I don't know about that is making me match up with these guys?
I know for a fact there are users not on this level doing the event as well, and I have only played like 20 Ranked Season games total (a few of them ending due to network issues). Any insight would be great here.

I'm sure there is but I have a feeling that a lot of folks, myself included, have simply moved off of the online frustration factory. I can now get my competitive fix in Showdown so why bother with the H2H nonsense? The lag, bugs and DDA is enough to institutionalize someone.

Lol good point. Honestly, the only reason I even purchased this game was because of the lockdown and I figure I may as well grind and team-build for fun. But man, this game is a mess tbh. Now I remember why I stopped playing last year's game. Oh well, I gave the game one last chance.

Jumped into an event game the other day, just to do something different. I've only played 6 games of ranked. Got matched up with a WS player with a stacked team. Needless to say I got blown out, dude even brought in knuckle cheese free agent in the last inning to further troll me.

I wish I was. I don't know if the events calculate on a different formula or what. Maybe he just started his event run as well. I only played 2 event games before this one. I sure saw his WS banner pregame though and was like wtf lol

Events and BR matchmaking is based off of your current run. 90% of the time if you have a 1-0 run going, you are going to be matched with a player who is also 1-0, regardless of how good they are

I think a lot of average/below average players are avoiding this event because it's on Hall of Fame.

Good to know. I'll just keep sticking to MTO grinding for FOTF cards.
