Radical, Probably Unpopular Idea...

People will probably object to this, but I think for online play there should be a limit placed on how many switch-hitters appear in a line-up. I'm just sick of playing teams that use only switch-hitters so they never have to face a same-side pitcher. This NEVER happens in real baseball, because switch-hitters are relatively rare. But because we can assemble teams from players throughout history, it's not hard to just have a line-up of Beltran, Raleigh, Rollins, Marte, De La Cruz, et. al. And it takes the fun out of playing online because it gets so redundant when you play teams that see an advantage in doing it. So set a limit of 3 or 4 (max) Switch-Hitters in online lineups to at least vaguely resemble something like real baseball.
-
Firmly, I don't believe anything that is legal according to the official rules of MLB should be declared illegal within MLB The Show games. There is no ceiling to how many switch hitters a team can put on its roster.
So, yes, I guess I will start the disagreement line!

Diamond Dynasty isn't real baseball. Most of what happens in DD will never happen in a real baseball game. I wish Willi Castro was as good in real life as his 99 card suggests but he's not. If you want a more realistic experience then play Online Rated.
-
And if we want to demand realism, then add vs RHP/LHP lineups. Oh wait a lot of people say that's cheese too even though that's actually something that happens in baseball.
-
Actually there isn't, the managers fill out the lineup card several hours before game time.so true realism would be no saved lineups. they are a feature of the video games
-
Okay make your lineups after you know who opposing SP is... People would complain about that even more.
-
@xRatedGProdigyx_PSN agreed... we should either have the ability to set vsLHP and vsRHP lineups or be able to make adjustments after we see the starter. I know a lot of people will say this is no good... but in baseball the managers know who the starter is before setting a lineup, it's part of the game.
-
My biggest issue is it gets tiresome facing all LH hitters when throwing a RHP or vice versa. So knowing the lineups in advance wouldn't help. And while Diamond Dynasty isn't "real" baseball, it does attempt to be. And no team in the history of baseball has a lineup of Switch-Hitters. It just makes the game less fun, even forgetting the realism of it.
-
Honestly I don't really think it attempts to be that real. Did John D throw 103 with 96 slider? It's pretty far on the arcade spectrum.
-
If its so overpowered, why dont you do it?
-
I cant speak for this year, but last year Carlos Santana captain singlehandedly destroyed lineup diversity. I got so tired of playing against those lineups, its dull playing against the same lineup every game.
-
@macdaddy-o_PSN You’re right… this is a terrible idea.
-
@Teak2112_MLBTS Last years lineup diversity was way better than this years.

Can I save the first two sentences of this post and use it as a canned reply when people complain about RNG and P/Ps bring outs?
-
If they removed the pci shrinkage on low and away slider/circle change ups, then people would not have to use so many switch hitters

Not in low levels of ranked. It was all Santana all the time last year
Granted I dont play online much this year because of the nonsense stat requirements being a turnoff, but there is far more variety in the 500 range than there was last year.
In the case it wasnt Santana it was Buxton or whatever the flavor of the month captain was.
I used Delgado most of the time last year (Mets theme), but i couldn't hit with him...
This year I feel actively discouraged by lack of inning goals from playing online for fun so I rarely use the Mets team -
@Teak2112_MLBTS Well, I agree that they have completely ruined theme teams this year. My experience has not been the same as far as lineup diversity. Yes, last year you saw a lot of the meta captains Buxton then Santana, but after they nerfed him I saw a lot more variety. Theme teams were viable and there were a bunch of viable captains which led to lineup diversity. I used Verlander, Hoffman, Castillo and different team captains throughout the year. I saw a lot of variety. The only variety we see this year is based on how much people play, which determines what cards they have. Sure, you’re going to see more variety at low levels because you’re playing people that don’t play much and don’t have most cards. It’s a lot different on the levels above you.

@PriorFir4383355_XBL There's also no legal reason Beltran can't play well in LF, so similar to how he would be nerfed there (that is my understanding for OOP anyway), they could do something similar for switch hitters. With all the "we want a sim" people that attack any posts asking for more offense, etc., I would think they would certainly be on this bandwagon too.
-
@dinkus_MLBTS How is that the same? People who want more of a sim also want the correct rules of baseball. There is no rule preventing a team from having all switch hitters. It’s probably never happened, but it certainly should not be a rule.
