This may turn out to be a lengthy post. My questions are at the bottom as a TLDR.

I was playing a VS CPU in DD tonight on rookie in the show 25, and was irritated that the CPU was throwing mainly balls and pitches on the black. I've played for a long time, and this is not how the CPU has always pitched. I commented to myself that it was pitching like someone would online. It got me curious if the difficulty was correct. I paused the game, went into settings under general, and saw that one of the difficulty settings was set and locked to competitive. I thought I remembered that only Online was forced to competitive setting (am I wrong). So I loaded up 24, then 23, and they were the same. Now I've struggled a lot since 23 and could never figure out what changed. So then I loaded up 22, and there was no such setting to be found in the in-game VS CPU settings.

Since 23, there has been a setting that locks all DD content to competitive difficulty, not just Online. Which means, since 23, all DD content has been an online simulator. I have been the caretaker for my mother for years as she battled cancer until she found peace just in late February. I don't want stress or competition. I want to play casually in DD and intentionally stay away from online.

    TLDR
So my questions are as follows.

    1. Didn't competitive difficulty used to be in online play only?
    2. Did SDS announce this change, and I miss it?
    3. What are the real differences between Causal, simulation, and competitive difficulty?

All DD is an online mode as you can't play any of it without Internet, what you mean is vs CPU or vs ppl, a distinction SDS finally recognizes as they call it single player and multiplayer this year.all DD is competitive mode.

SDS did announce this in a pre release
stream when they introduced casual, simulation and competitive modes.
I've only done competitive so I'm not to sure of the differences, but I think it's - simulation the attributes matter more and competitive your inputs matter more.
