Taking All My Willpower To Remain NMS (Rengifo)

I think it's funny how Luis Rengifo and Willie Castro are among the highest rated players in a mode stacked with past legends and current superstars. And they're priced like it too.
-
And staying NMS!
Now obviously my funds are depleted so if they come out with some great cards today, I definitely won't be able to get them.
But for me personally, I can't imagine them coming out with a better card than Rengifo for quite a while.

Blame all the people that complain when you get two cards of the same player
But that castro card is just gross. He had one good 30 game stretch in his career when he hit .350, so he gets a max contact card.
Meanwhile Alonso gets one 30 game stretch in his career when he hits .350 and he wont sniff those contact numbers because free card.
Remember when the chase cards were Mickey Mantle, Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani and Jacob DeGrom? Now its 'well this guy is [censored] but he had a good BR card so...'

@Teak2112_MLBTS, I hear you, but these low to mid 90s cards will likely be the best for those players, and they'll be eclipsed by the guys you mentioned later in the cycle.
Personally, I'm glad cards like this get a run; spreads the joy around so it's not just limited to those who stack their lineups with the greats. I'd take a 92 Dee Strange Gordon with CF secondary over any Mantle, any day, then I'd P5 him and he'd never leave my RS lineup.
Alonso will get a high 90s card at some point.

It’s not that they were popular BR cards. They had public job postings in 2023 for positions developing in-game currency markets / micro-transactions that were intended to hire new employees to create as much efficiency from it as possible (for SDS, not us). Whoever they hired is actually good at their job as one of the things that changed in 24 and 25 is the spamming of stub-driven switch-hitting cards because switch-hitting cards are typically the highest in-demand.
Hence, we have:
- 99 Beltran as collection reward for MLB;
- 93 Castro as chase card;
- 93 Headley as collection reward for NL West;
- 92 Rengifo as BR reward;
- 92 Santana as collection reward requiring only cards from promo packs;
- 92 Posada as chase card;
- 90 Simmons as collection reward for NL Central;
- 90 Reynolds as chase card;
- 90 Heim as BR reward;
- 89 Santander as collection reward requiring cards from a promo pack;
- 89 Polanco as rarest card from promo pack;
- 89 Raines in a promo pack;
- 89 Raleigh in a promo pack;
- 88 Edman in a promo pack;
- 88 Rollins as BR reward;
- 87 Berkman as BR reward; and
- 87 De Vries as a collection reward.
Now, those aren’t all the switch-hitters. But the remaining that you obtain through some other method (like multiplayer program or WS reward) typically have extreme splits where their switch-hitting value is severely nerfed and they’re more like platoon cards (like Chipper Jones and Ozzie Albies) or are released right before or right after a different, much better switch-hitter was available (like Varitek wasn’t the best switch-hitting catcher available when he was released and there’s now at least 3 on that list that are better).
If anything, it’s surprising that they let a card like 87 Tony Clark slip through the cracks as a cornerstone. He’s the only one that doesn’t fit the mould on usefulness. If Clark’s card didn’t exist and you swapped Heim into the multiplayer program and Varitek into being a BR reward, they probably would have nailed it.
Or put a different way, it’s not about them being great BR cards. It’s about them running out of actual good IRL switch-hitters to profit off of and having to therefore use any they can find a ridiculous reason to justify using.

It’s Absolutely ridiculous what’s going on in that Marketplace this year and the prices of these players. For all the money SDS is making they need to give us players something like they had in 2k where you could go spin a wheel every 12 hours where you actually have a chance of getting 500k up to a million in coins the same should be with stubs! But SDS is [censored] greedy and selfish they don’t give us anything except being forced into playing modes to get stubs or cards that are absolute trash

How much are they making, exactly?

And it was all worth it...

You mean 250 stubs or a random pack of commons as rewards aren’t good enough?
All kidding aside it’s sad that things have declined to this point.
