Three card spotlight program and the Brandon Nimmo problem
-
This isnt about Brandom Nimmo specifically, but I will use him as an example. Nimmo was given a Topps Now card by Topps for his 4.28 performance where he had a 9 RBI game. Nimmo is a guy who has never made an All Star team (although was an egregious snub on one occasion) and has started to decline so he likely never will. So this will likely be the only chance in the first half of the season top give a Nimmo card based on the current season. But they didn't put his Topps Now card in the game. And the icing on the cake is the Mets are currently missing 2 positions (realistically 3 because of Beltran) from being able to make a theme team line up out of flashbacks/legends and guess what? One of them is Nimmo's position.
Alongside of this, lets look at the program...Its a three card program! Why is it only 3? Why isnt it variable based on the number of Topps Now cards that would make sense to give out? You could easily make this an 8 card program if there are enough worthy cards. It can even be the same length of time to complete to pacify the people that hate medium/long programs.
Again, Nimmo is an example here. he is very far from the only Topps Now card that is ignored. Most teams by now probably have a Nimmo of their own.
People will say 'they cant release all of the Topps Now cards' but thats complete [censored]: they CAN and they SHOULD. 3 years into captains we should be embracing theme teams and TN is a perfect way to do it.

I thought Nimmo would have had a spotlight card and a moment for sure....boy is my face red....

Top team in April had 1 card added the entire month and it came in May, best pitching staff in baseball and nothing to show for it, but at least we got more Red Sox cards

To be fair, at least the Topps now cards they do give out are mostly aimed at the teams like the Rays, Marlins, Rockies, As, Pirates, etc.
