Whats with the new bunt spam cheese?

Two out of my last three games everyones obsessed with bunting like a bafoon repeatedly (and sometimes it even WORKS) especially later in the game. They dont usually start out doing it, but its not a blowout one way or the other so its not showing off or frustration, this last one was 1-0 in the 6th when he started doing it.
Also he was doing a fair bit of stealing with it too, i still dont know how you guys steal. I cant even get the controls and timing right for it. I either get picked off or get a horrible jump (even with like, five par duran or elly)

If I remember correctly the Multiplayer program has a mission for steals. Maybe they were just trying to get on first base with a bunt and then get the steals done.

@SquishySoldier_MLBTS I just don't time it. Press L2 instead of holding and just trust your guy to do his thing.

@trfatboy22_PSN Tap L1 once to take a lead, then tap L2 once to have the runner auto-steal on the pitch. High Steal stat guys typically run at the right time and make it back fine on pickoff attempts. Two clicks on L1 and you are probably getting picked off with too much of a lead.
EDIT: And for those of you just learning this, do this while pressing the Left Stick to the baserunner you want to do this with if you only want to move 1 runner. Without that, everyone steals.

@TheDaveyG_NSW useful advice. Ill have to try it. Ive missed out on most every steal related objective because i just dont even think its worth the risk.

Its easier now when less catchers have pop time
Also if you played me I let you steal because I assumed you were after the mission. I also threw meatballs to your Bautista (but Pendleton and Varitek both rake so dont need that treatment)I have zero cares about my ranked record.

I'm still trying to figure out how to bunt properly since they changed it this year.
I'm playing the Spring Breakot Showdown and I'd like to actually be able to use the Bunt Cheese perk.
