I decided to take a break from playing with a bunch of 78/79 and 83/84 and some 85/86 players in grinding TA. In this break, I decided to play my "God Squad", with the likes of Carlos Beltran, Gil Hodges and Roger Clemens. My highest overall catcher is Mike Napoli for the LAA LS collection reward. I didn't bother to look at the individual ratings. Roger Clemens was awesome as expected, but Napoli had trouble catching Clemens' sliders. He let three go by him (officially WPs but I would argue PBs), two of them in the same inning with a dropped third strike (what would have been inning-ending K) and then right after that to let that runner take second base. The last one didn't count as a WP because there was no advancement on the bases and not a dropped third strike. Afterwards, I looked at his defensive attributes...60 FLD and 70 BLK. He is worse in those areas than pretty much every silver, gold, and diamond catchers. For the "God Squad" would have much rather have Shohei as the DH, but Napoli seems to be a defensive liability which won't be fun until a better catcher is dropped.
Just realized that Ted Simmons is a higher overall rated catcher and slightly better fielding catcher than Napoli.
