Bro i responded weirdo. Mike trout. Barry bonds. Take your pick. One of them. If I was a GM and had a choice of every hitter to ever play Id choose one of them.
Actually you said modern era so sorry for asking about all time.
Odd you didn’t pick Babe Ruth who leads in both OPS and WAR though, kinda weird to base your whole argument on Joe Carter on stats you don’t base your best hitter all time onSomeone who didnt play against black or spanish people is entirely irrelevant to everything. Bonds leads in both in the modern era. Try again.
So Trump is irrelevant. I agree
Nah hes your president and will be for four more years!

Bonds spent 8-10 years roiding up to get those numbers try again.
Try what again? Do you people know baseball reference and fangraphs are free?!
Yes. But you don't get to say Ruth's greatness doesn't count, but build up the greatness of the most notorious steroid abuser of them all at the same time. Bonds wasn't among the 10 best hitters ever before 2000, after which point the cream and the clear did their thing, and he traded in the completeness of his game to become the greatest hitter of all time.
Never said “it didnt count”
Bonds very well could of been considered a top 10 hitter before he started juicing. Most think he started juicing in 99. Before 99 he had 3 MVPs and OPSed above 1000 7 times. Thats um pretty good.
Yes. He was one of the 10 greatest all around players of all time - because he was a true 5 tool player before 2000. But he had a career slugging average of like .550. He did not have numbers that compared to the truly elite hitters like Ruth, Hornsby, Williams...those guys. He was great because he did everything extremely well. He traded in his fielding, arm, and speed to become the hitter he became. Without roids he's not in a 'greatest hitter of all time" discussion.

This is the dumbest thing you have said today. Someone is racist
I ask you this seriously. Are you autistic? Because you seem to not grasp simple things that are clearly laid out for you.
Honestly man, [censored] you. Why can’t you just have a civil baseball discussion with other people without insulting them/making fun of those with mental illnesses? Get the [censored] off the forums and don’t come back.

How in the mother of god can Bias affect numbers that come from MLB games? Is this a real comment? You trolling? Or are you really this slow?
So yes. Baseball statistics are not biased and main stream media where people are paid to say things are. Didnt know that needed typed out but here we are.

Ruth didn't play against black players in MLB, that is true. He also didnt have steroids injected into him.
Ruth born today would still be one of the greatest. He would have all the trainers, strength and conditioning, and modern diet and medicine to take advantage of as well.
He took over the career HR lead at 138 and ended with 714. If anyone did what he did (from 714) they would have had to hit 3,694 HRs. That is how incredible Ruth was. In 1920 he hit more HRs than 15 TEAMS.
EDIT: and this is not including his pitching prowess.

Numbers recorded, tracked and inputted by people. If they can buy off the NYT, why can't they buy off a small time website? Stats never lie right?

The reason Tony Romo and all QBs today are statistically better than Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath, and Terry Bradshaw is the game is completely different. Passing yards are higher because more teams are throw first run second, noth the other way around like it was back then. And the #1 reason why it was like that then and not like that down, and explains entirely why those guys had lower completion % and more INTs. Because DBs could touch WR all the way downfield. It's hard to compete passes to guys who are molested all the way until the ball gets there. Anyone who is old enough to have seen those players play will tell you the rules of the game have changed completely and it is ludicrous to compare players from then to players now. The game is entirely different. You can speculate all you want that those guys would have had better numbers if the rules of today where used back then. How many WR really wanted to go over the middle of the field in front of guys like Jack Tatum and a bit later Ronnie Lott. It is truly apples to oranges to compare players in the past to the modern day players using modern day stats.
It is the same for baseball, maybe not as much with the rule changes like the NFL, but still for every time you talk about diversity of players, you have expansion, a lower mound and much smaller ballparks. Again it is entirely speculative to compare guys from different eras, I dont care what sport you want to use.
Ps I can't believe I read this whole thread.

I also wouldn’t define bias as a characteristic that only applies to things you disagree with. It’s like fake news in that regard.
Also, confirmation bias. It’s a thing. You might want to check it out. Do so with caution though, you might be allergic to new information.

Dude. The CIA runs the media. If you dont think there is any bias in the media then im not sure what to say to you.
Operation mockingbird was a thing. If you think times have changed then power to you bro. If you think the media is still here for the people then power to you. But its not. Its there to brainwash and get people riled up. There is a reason when black people get killed by cops its trending within an hour. When its a white dude? Who cares. Divide and conquer. CIA runs the media? Lol. I repeat. Lol. The 1st amendment is the defining characteristic of what really makes America great, not to mention the many times that classified national security documents have been leaked illegally, reported, and the whistleblower that leaked them is then prosecuted.
I think there is no bias in the media? There is a straw man if I ever saw one. Where did I say anything close to that?
As far as Twittter goes, “the media” doesn’t control that. It’s called social media for a reason.
