1/7/25 Captain drop - if anyone cares...

FYI...
-
Yikes. That is ugly. I was hoping for Dominican and I personally couldn’t stand OOP.
-
I don't really know why they bother with these. I don't know a single person who grinds the captain blizzards and I haven't faced a single player with any of the captain blizzards cards.

OOP was cute for about a week, but became too unrealistic with Mo Rivera and Randy smacking bombs!

Some people will grind them because they are addicted to the grind. Others, because they are completionists. And yet others, and I may fall into this category, may grind them because they are a fan of the player or team.
I'll probably try and get Contreras because it is a Cardinal card. I probably won't use him much, if at all, afterwards and never for his captain boost but he is an alternative to using Bob Gibson as a catcher on my Cardinals team.

Guys … I am coming the conclusion that most ppl here only want 1 thing each game cycle: 99 Griffey, Mantle, J-Ram, Chipper, Adley, Santana, Seager, Aaron, Randy, Lindor, Gibson, Mo, Donaldson and a few other crazy-stat-cards that they can use all-the-time … even when the year ends and there is nothing to earn anymore.
Captain cards have a purpose to make specific cards viable and make ppl experiment with different lineups. That is the core-thing of DD …
I will make teams with those captains once I finish my theme-team-series (where btw. I mostly face gods squads with the guys I mentioned above). I have Spahn already read-to-go and will gladly look forward building a nice team with them. The Venezuela-team was nice last year

Completed within 30mins after dropping

This late in the season we should be getting cards too use on theme teams, not the captains themselves.
Why wasnt Lou Brock captain around when the content was current? Its more fun to get cards and think 'what captains will these work with' vs getting the captain at the end when there is nothing left to play for anyway.

Complaining about the past is not working … maybe this is a sign for content to come (in 25)?
We are getting new captains to check what cards will work for them, to build new teams nobody has done …
Again … I may only have 50 games in the last 20 days to base this on, but - as I mentioned in the theme team threads - close to nobody has used theme teams online during the core of this season nor right now (I also think that this forum is not a representation of what is out there)
95% of the player base is using god squads … all year (and that is exactly where the complaints about Sets&Seasons have come from) and there is maybe only 1 missing (from the set of cards we can expect) …So, imo …. right move … spice it up a liiiitttle … the majority of player will only care if the „content“ is named 99 Elly de la Cruz. If that is not the case, „everybody“ is complaining. It may be a little over-exaggerated … but everybody can check for themselves, if he/she has encountered something way different (at least for ranked).

To your point, I checked last night and under 300 people had the captains from December’s last drop to P1. So 99.99% of the players even playing still are not using them.
I’ve gone with your game plan of creating new teams and I have to say it’s been pretty fun. Just wish I was better because whether I use a Griffey Sr, Griffey Jr, hell even a Mike Griffey I’m striking out just the same lol

The current event has 676 pages on its leaderboard and at 18 players per page, that’s just over 12,150 players that have played at least 1 game in the current event. It’s obviously not the entire player base as some people don’t play online and some who do play online, won’t play this event.
9,202 people have P1’ed milestone Chris Sale. That is 76% of the 12,150, but probably closer to ~50% of the active player base.
1,905 people have P1’ed captain Catfish Hunter, so far the most used of the captain blizzard drops. That’s 16% of the 12,150, but probably closer to 10% of the active player base.
It is not just 0.01% that’s using these cards. That’s hyperbole. But social media does tend to drastically overestimate the demand for using “different teams.” There’s a minority of the player base that enjoys changing their team up. The vast majority of the player base finds cards they like and use them. Sometimes it’s the meta cards, sometimes it isn’t. But people regularly changing their squad is not normal. Heck, for some people to do that, they’d spend most of their gaming time just in the squad screen.

Glad you are having fun … I am feeling you. I lost 2 in a row with the Braves today and got so frustrated I have to take a day or two off because I was simply not seeing the ball well.

I do also not think (not at all tbh) that people want to change their lineup. I kinda disagree that it is only „Find cards they like“, because then everybody likes the same cards :). I also disagree that social media demands lineup diversity. They demand for the big boys … all the time … every year

But, back-to-topic … Today I faced somebody with the Warren Spahn Captain … and Kenley „the call him Polanco“ Jansen won it for him my opponent … I still liked his team

SDS has made everything 'hit or dont progress now', except event which is always 'win or dont progress'. They have pushed casuals (the ones less likely to use god squads) away from online play.
-
@TeakAUS_PSN I do not think that is the case (for both arguments). I face „under .500 players“ a lot since I play on All-Star a lot … Many of them have like 300+ games … and 95% play with the meta/god squad cards

I appreciate all the research but you may have missed the point of my post. The stats are interesting.
