Why Starters should not be allowed to come in as relievers in DD
-
SDS, please do not allow starters to come in as relievers. This makes for bad gameplay, less strategy, and unrealistic pitcher usage in DD.
A lot of your player base is already tired of seeing Kluber either starting or coming out of relief every game. I actually do not mind this yet, because as a player I can work counts, get Kluber tired, and also get used to the break on all his pitches.
However, in the future we will have a huge problem on our hands. Once our rotations are full of 99s and players we can trust, this game will be unplayable in ranked seasons. I already know how it will go, because I will use the same strategy.
Once I have 99 Kershaw, 99 Kluber, 99 Gibson, 99 Seaver, and 99 Ryan, I will be able to use all 5 pitchers every game if I wanted to. I will throw 2 innings with Kershaw, 2 innings with Kluber, 2 innings with Gibson, then go to my pen with 99s. Next game, just repeat the process with Seaver & Ryan and I'll never have a pitcher that gets below 90% stamina EVER in any game.
How will this affect gameplay?
-
Working counts will be pointless, as you will never get to face a halfway tired pitcher.
-
The PCI will always be at its smallest. Once again, since a pitcher won't ever be tired you will never get the opportunity to allow the PCI to grow
-
You will never be able to get used to a delivery or used to the break on each pitch. Before the 2nd time around the lineup there will already be a new pitcher in the game.
-
There will be no strategy or risk/reward for letting pitcher go deep in a game. Just pinch hit every PA with the pitcher.
I promise, this will be what the game becomes if we continue to let starters come out of the pen. Please, see how this will affect the game negatively and make proactive changes.

Starters out of the pen is just a natural side effect of us being able to use an opener. You have to be able to bring in a starter out of the pen for that to work.
So, the only way they can remove starters coming in from the bullpen is by removing the option to use an opener.

I mean if they found a way that starters can only come in following an opener that would be the best option but I just don’t think its possible
-
I get that the opener is becoming a thing but that doesn’t mix well with this video game and it needs to be scrapped. At least for 9 inning ranked games. It seems to work well with events and BR
-
This is going to be terrible for ranked seasons. Just wait as we get better SPs.
It needs to be removed until they find a way to make it more reasonable where a SP can only come in after an opener, and only one SP coming in the rest of the game
-
They should make it where the starter has to pitch a min of 5 innings in a 9 inning game. RP pitcher have to pitch to 3 batters or to the 3rd out of an inning.

that is a horrible idea. If I have a pitcher who isnt performing well its already bad enough that you have to get three outs with him but you think that 5 innings would be better?

you dont know when your gonna get rocked early on. I had a starting pitcher today I had to pull 2 outs into the game bc he gave up 3 runs. I ended the game winning 4-3. You cant be possibly think having to use a guy for a minimum of 5 innings would help anythin

Down the line as the year goes on, Using 99 SP pitchers every 2 innings as the OP said would be good for the game?
-
That's exactly what's going to happen. It needs to be gone or they need to find a way to fix energy. Or making starters ineligible to pitch for a couple games between appearances. Something.

No its not good for the game, unless you like a pitching matchup. But I agree that Rs is a game of adjustments and picking up tendencies. If a guy is going to the bullpen early its a tough one. The only way to combat it is they would have to slow down the speed that the starters stamina bar

They seem to be trying to make more like realistic baseball, not many starters last 6 innings. Some teams started using RP as a 5th and 4Th stater and play it as a bullpen game, I was just making a suggestion the they could put a min on the SP to pitch a certain amount of innings I think your SP should be able to pitch 5 but at least 4 or like someone said make it a rotation where you can not use that pitcher for 4 games like a real rotation.
-
Can you start a RP? That’s the only reason I could see bringing a starter in to actually use the opener theory

He gave up 3 runs all game. That isn’t terrible at pitching. That’s really good

Thought of this potential idea. On the screen where you choose your starting pitcher, SDS could make it to where you have to swap the reliever you want to use as an opener into the rotation. This would swap one of your SP into the bullpen, which would be the guy who would pitch after your opener if you choose to do so. This would allow SDS to make your rotation off limits as far as using them as relief pitchers goes. So you’d have your opener (Morton for example) swapped in for one starter (Snell for example). Morton is now your SP, and your bullpen consists of six guys and Snell, Bc you swapped him into your bullpen. This way, the starting rotation would never have to be used as relief pitcher options.
