I don’t know what day it is anymore but I do know I’ve played MLB20 A LOT.

DD itself, I’d say is equal to or better than 19. Still very early to tell (depending on future content) but the overall base of DD has improved in my opinion. TAs are a lot better. More rewards, something to work towards through the whole year. Also more variety in missions (I’m a fan of the SUBTLE stat missions.) Starting pitcher selection is a W although there are flaws to it that could be fixed.
I also like the pitch speeds and actually being able to strike people out. Way too many foul tips in 19.
I also love the evolution cards and the prestige cards. I wish there were more of them.

Showdowns are great. Frustrating at times, but great. You get a ton of XP, a decent amount of stubs, and they also lead to some very good, top tier cards (for now at least). Way better than just the basic missions. I will say they need to turn down fielder reaction for the CPU. Players with 50 fielding are making gold glove plays regularly in Showdowns. Tim Anderson might as well be a juiced Andrelton Simmons if you’re playing the White Sox.

Now for gameplay/overall function of the game.
20 is a step back in gameplay. I don’t think there’s any debate about it. Fielding is horrible. It looks clunky, weird animations, nothing is smooth, fielders not locking on, excessive errors even from diamond fielders. HUGE L. How has this not been fixed yet? Fielding is without a doubt an unfinished product. There’s no way they thought fielding was ok when they were releasing this game.

Not to mention the glitchy stuff that continues to happen. The Homerun banner getting stuck. sometimes your uniforms will just change. One game I have a player wearing stance socks for no reason, next game he’s not, etc.

Hitting. I don’t really know what I think about hitting to be honest. I really like the perfect/perfect addition. It can be rather confusing though because if it’s NOT perfect/perfect it’s really just a [censored] shoot on what feedback you’ll get. You could be a centimeter/millisecond off and it will be a good/okay and feel like you just swung a pool noodle. There needs to be more consistency in feedback other than perfect/perfect. Overall I will say hitting improved slightly but that doesn’t make up for the regression with fielding.

Pitching. It is what it is. 19 was pretty good. 20’s pitching was horrible to start the year but since the recent patch I do think input matters more. I’d say pitching is about equal to 19.

Overall I’m having a lot of fun with it, but I’m very disappointed fielding is this bad when 19 was so much more smooth. This game could be the best Show yet with a GOOD patch. Unfortunately with the history of this game, you can’t really expect that to happen.

Any thoughts on Franchise, RTTS and MTO, or Custom Leagues?
