Good idea to buy captain packs and hold?
-
first year on MLB the show. I’m NMS, have 270k and wondering if it’s a good idea to buy both 40k captains packs and hold them.
do you think they players in there have the chance to go for more than 40k down the road? i wouldn’t open them so i could take what ever player gains in price
-
that is a very good question, I myself bought both packs to use and as an investment when all seasons are back open. I think worse case they hold 40k+ value for some time.
-
I think it’s a good idea. There is going to be a period of time these cards skyrocket in price when these packs are not available in the store anymore. The price for the “meta” ones could easily get over a 100k assuming SDS doesn’t put these packs in programs or conquests anytime soon which is probably a safe bet this year

I have about 60k, so I bought one, got a quick 4k profit, and then bought the other and will hold for a little bit.
The risk is that the captain bonus doesn't work from a wildcard slot, but if it does I imagine these cards will go up in value. Probably not as much as Cal did last year, and there should be new cornerstones in s2 to cloud the picture as well.
-
Please don't buy them and then come back asking why you can't sell them when they're tripled in price cause you locked them in to the Collection.

Wildcard Slots just allows you to put them in your lineup. So the boost will still work...They don't turn a 25 man roster into a 29 man roster.

I absolutely think they will easily retain their value and even appreciate, once the packs aren't available anymore. A few things could change that, 1. SDS gives out these packs as rewards 2. The cards aren't usable in the next season 3. there are much better Captain. BUT, with them being limited and the them being build squad, I imagine they will rise. I have 4 of the captains and may buy the other 2 soon..and won't be collecting them.

Save till next week, New TA drops on the 10th
-
@chucky97___ New TA already? Geezus...
-
Based on last year yeah it is. I’m not locking in Santana in case his price goes up significantly like Ripken and Rollins did last year. The only concern is that SDS could totally ruin this investment by flooding the market with captains, which I think would be the best move anyways, so it’s not a sure thing.

@MrDeweyCoXX worst case scenario is that sds sees how many people have bought multiple captain cards in hopes of making a profit when the pack leaves the store, so they put a free captain pack in an upcoming conquest causing the prices to go down to 10k.
-
@yankblan Only 7 more to go this year!
-
I think it is a risky investment because they could release a lot more better captains or put the pack in a program or conquest. That being said even with the risk there is a high upside the pack isn't in the store anymore and one or more of the captains become the meta and they could double or triple in price
