spring training roster control in franchise mode
-
good question. I'm still in my first season. I'll save and sim it out rq
-
so far I can unfortunately say that the CPU still automatically options players to the minors at the end of the season when the roster shrinks from 28 to 26
-
survey says yes. CPU automatically calls up all 40-man players for spring training
-
You have to manually cut your MLB roster to exactly 26 before starting the regular season. Do this right after the final Spring Training game but before initializing the start of the regular season. Your big league roster will be exactly how you want it to be.
-
@SIRMANBOY the issue is that you waste options on players you send back down after spring. if there's a player that's out of options that I don't want to be placed on waivers, I should be able to just not call them up for spring in the first place.

Thanks, for checking on this. It's a bit disappointing to find that, even on full manual roster control, we still don't have full control of the spring training roster.
I, generally, dont like looking at my spring roster, every season.. knowing I'll have players I'll have to use options on ( or possibly lose, if theyre out of options), that I didn't want on the roster, to begin with.
Wish they'd fix that.
Setting all roster moves ( signing, re-signings, line-ups, etc..) to manual, should also include spring training rosters. -

@icdavis882 Fair point. I’ve never been real concerned with it myself because I’m not adding players to my 40-man until I plan on using them on the big league club, or I’ll do it when I’m forced to because they’re Rule 5 eligible. Is it possible that you’re just adding players to the 40-man too early? I mean, you’re right for wanting the game to allow non-roster Spring Training invites, but Spring Training really isn’t that important in this game, so you might just try not adding people to your 40-man until it’s absolutely necessary. By the time a guy runs out of options for me, I’m either committed to making him a full-time big leaguer, or I’m ready to trade him for younger prospects and start the development cycle all over again. I find that this approach keeps my minor league system younger and more productive. I don’t need a bunch of 26- and 27-year-old journeyman kicking around down there anyway.

My understanding is that players get 3 option years where they can be optioned up to 5 times. It's frustrating that we only get 3 times total (not even 3 each year) and that them being called up in Spring Training counts as one of the times.

@sgoforth3 As far as I can tell the game doesn’t charge a team multiple options in a season, so you can send a player up and down as much as you want without having it counted against you more than once. Basically, you’ll take that Spring Training hit but nothing more after that for the season.
