There are too many programs to finish in Season 4 -- and too many seem to need a victory in Showdown to complete them. There are about three weeks or so before Season 5. I don't see any way to finish Team Affinity and all the various other programs that have dropped by then. I won't even have time to play Ranked Seasons or Battle Royale or Events. Just finishing the Moments sections -- usually the easiest and quickest things to deal with -- is taking me forever. There's a ton of them, and a lot seem to be worth only 1 point which makes for a real slog. Just curious if others are finding this to be the case, too. And FWIW, I'm also sick of working to get the cards of players I got in other seasons or collections. How many Juan Sotos or Randy Johnsons or Mark McGwires, et. al. are we supposed to collect? I was intrigued by the fractured seasons and being able to use 99s earlier in the year, but it's now getting tiresome and onerous. I just don't have enough time to do it all. I think they need to take a hard look at what's working and what isn't this year, and then adjust next year's game accordingly.

I can't do anything about the grind needed, but I can say that Showdown is pretty easy if you draft players with 80 speed or better and a drag bunt attribute of 30 or better.

Take the drag bunt and vision perks whenever they're offered (in that order of importance). Drag bunt to get on base and to advance your runners.

To drag bunt, hold your right joystick in the 2-oclock position (point it between the 1st and 2nd baseman) and wait until the pitcher has thrown the pitch before hitting the bunt button.

Not all of your drag bunts will go where they're supposed to, but you'll be batting well over .500 with you speedier batters.

Also, with this method, it's likely that you'll have at least one common or bronze player on your team who has these attributes, so make sure to check your bench and backup players before setting your lineup.

Also, because the question always seems to come up, your PCI doesn't matter at all for drag bunts.

Hope this helps you complete your showdowns without getting stuck!

You don’t have to play any of the programs. Ignore them if you like. You don’t even need a lot of the cards to finish set collections

I know ignoring them is a possibility, but in past years I've been able to complete everything. It's my personality to not let anything go and be completist. Last year was the first year I was able to actually collect every card. This year it's not even close. I'm just saying the time deadline for a season -- not to mention having a life -- limits the ability to do all the offerings. And, at least in the first 3 seasons, I didn't feel the strain. It seems in season 4 there's a lot more to get through and each thing in and of itself seems to take more time and commitment. I just think they need to find a better balance, especially because you can't use all your players throughout the year. And, again, it gets boring having to re-collect players you've already collected. They tried something new this year. Parts were good, parts were not. And, for whatever reason, Season 4 has been more frustrating than fun for me. There's just not enough time in the day to do as much as they're throwing out there. And now there's the Division Series program.

Man, that was an awesome post. Thanks for taking the time to type all that out. I may just try this…it certainly sounds like it would be effective and I’ve certainly got nothing to lose since I’ve been smeared in the last several showdowns. Thanks a lot partner

I tried doing the drag bunt/vision thing and, well, maybe I'm just not good or experienced at it. I mean, I do bunt a lot which gets me some wins and tend to fill my bench with speed and bunting guys, but I didn't find a lot of options. One time I was able to get Ozzie Smith and Rod Carew, but my drag bunts weren't very good. I also tend to pop out a lot, which sucks when you're just trying to advance a runner, let alone bunt for a hit.

I don’t bunt very often either, but I’ve found a few things that have helped. One thing is to select the pitch that you’re going to bunt with as much (if not more) attention as you would when you’re trying to rip it out of the park. When I look back at the better part of my failed attempts it seems like 90% or better of them were due to simply bunting the first thing I saw instead of selecting a good breaking pitch or off speed, which makes it easier to deaden the ball as opposed to a screaming heater that ends up foul clear up to the dugout entrance lol

Another thing I’ve noticed for myself is that my bunting success goes up tremendously when I wait until the very last second to hit triangle (ps5) and execute my bunt. I also only use a couple of guys to bunt like Dee Strange Gordon this year and Lou Brock last year so I know I’ve sold myself short by not trying this with other players….which is partly why I’m a bit excited to give this Showdown bunting technique thing a try - to use the entire experience to attempt to hone my bunting skills while simultaneously using the opportunity to find some more great bunters to try
